I want to be clear: I don't blame Pocono Raceway or the organizers for the weather or for closing the track. My frustration lies with how they handle cancellations and their lack of empathy for disappointed customers who paid a lot. I lost a vacation day, two meals, gas expenses, and a hotel bill, while others lost much more. There are no rain delays. If you book early, you end up with the 8 am slot, which is the riskiest due to stronger sun at noon. Instead of allowing 8 am customers to share the burden of a rain delay with last-minute 12 pm customers, they cancel the 8 am reservations and honor all later slots as scheduled. They seem unwilling to pay overtime for staff to stay longer. If later time slots are full after your cancellation, you're out of luck. Ironically, they offer a one-year "rain check." When I noticed some open slots at 12 pm, there was no way to secure them, and staff could not confirm the number of available spots. There were customers traveling from far away, yet it was unclear who would get priority. To put it bluntly, even if a process exists for handling rain cancellations, no one communicates it. Their response essentially amounts to, "It's canceled, not our fault, and good luck on your way out." I believe the actual driving experience is worth five stars. The instruction was thorough, and safety was prioritized. However, I regret having to wait another year to enjoy it since I lost my last vacation day. They should at least allow customers to rebook a Saturday without any extra charges. Overall, management is lacking.
This service is a total ripoff. I booked a drive for $400 but couldn't make it, receiving only a $200 credit. When I tried to use that credit for a different ride, they informed me I could only apply it towards another pricey $200 drive. I wanted my dad to use the credit since I had a hip replacement, but they refused. I won't be returning. Be cautious when booking.
