This unique flight experience invites you aboard a WWII Stearman biplane, an aircraft historically used for pilot training. The full experience lasts about 1.5 hours, including a pre-flight inspection and an introduction to the controls and radios before taking to the skies for approximately 30 minutes.
During the flight, you'll navigate over the picturesque McDowall Mountains. Depending on your comfort level, you can choose smooth flying or more energetic maneuvers. My husband enjoyed his first flight in a WW2 plane, which turned out to be an amazing experience. Craig, the pilot, was an excellent guide and even allowed my husband to take control of the plane for a few minutes. Overall, it was a memorable outing.
Craig is an excellent instructor pilot who took the time to share insights about the plane's history and how it operates. Soon after, we were flying over the stunning Sonoran Desert! This was a fantastic experience that I highly recommend to anyone interested in enjoying a ride in a piece of World War II history.
This was an incredible experience that I would happily do again. If you’re considering it, just book it right away. My wife arranged this as a surprise Christmas gift, and I was thrilled when I arrived at the airfield and met Craig. I was beaming with excitement as he detailed the history of the aircraft and its restoration. The biplane was stunning; you could feel the love put into it. Although I had some background on WW2 airplanes, hearing about this specific model and its journey was fascinating. Craig went over the aircraft components and how to fly while ensuring I understood to simply sit back and enjoy the ride. Once it was our turn for takeoff, I was euphoric as we lifted off. The open cockpit provided great visibility, making me feel more connected than I usually do in commercial flights. I felt entirely at ease during the gentle ascent and landing. Once airborne, Craig kept us mostly quiet over the comms, which allowed me to absorb the fascinating communication between him and air traffic control. When we were out of the airfield's controlled area, Craig showed me how the controls worked, and I was amazed at the responsiveness of the aircraft. It was exhilarating to be at the controls of a WW2 trainer. Craig’s calm and clear instructions instilled confidence in me. Though I felt a bit nervous initially, I was assured of my safety and enjoyed every moment under his guidance. I experienced some g-forces during turns, which was exhilarating but not jarring at all. The overall smoothness of the stall was remarkable. On our return to the airfield, Craig continued guiding me, and for a brief moment, I felt like I was truly flying. It was a memorable experience, flying an aircraft without modern technical assistance. Listening to Craig communicate with the control tower and being involved in the flight made landing as smooth as any commercial flight. I left with an ear-to-ear grin and a ton of questions, which Craig was more than willing to answer. This was an unforgettable experience, worth every penny. Anyone with an interest in aviation or history should take part in this. The only downside was that I was so overwhelmed with excitement that I struggled to think of questions while there. However, I consider that a testament to how amazing the whole experience was. I’ll definitely return next time I’m in Phoenix.
Flying in a biplane has been a dream of mine for years, so I drove two hours for my 60th birthday to make it happen, and it was absolutely worth it. The joy I experienced while flying with Craig was immense; he was kind, patient, and incredibly skilled. His plane was spotless, and I cherished every second of the flight. I was so filled with happiness that I even shed some tears! Having flown in small planes before, I found the open cockpit experience remarkable, allowing for a much broader view. I wholeheartedly recommend this adventure to anyone, and we will certainly do it again—my husband will be next!
This was a world-class, once-in-a-lifetime experience that was informative and truly breathtaking. Craig is an exceptional pilot, skilled in plane restoration, and a patient teacher. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had my flight on his stunning Stearman biplane. It was a thrilling experience from takeoff to landing. I strongly encourage you to book a flight with him; it was the best decision I've ever made.
My biplane ride with Craig was truly outstanding. It’s a must-try experience at least once in your lifetime. From the outset, Craig was very welcoming and made the outing feel exceptional. His extensive knowledge added so much to the experience, as he shared interesting historical insights about the biplane, enhancing the ride's significance. There’s nothing comparable to flying in an open cockpit; the sensation is indescribable. If you’re even considering this adventure, go ahead and book it. You will not regret it.
What an incredible experience flying in an open cockpit above Fountain Hills, Scottsdale, and Red Mountain, along with the McDowell Mountains. Craig is an outstanding pilot who shares a wealth of information. Thank you.
This experience was a gift from my daughter as part of my bucket list, and it exceeded my expectations. Craig provided excellent insights into the history and technology before our flight. I even had the chance to take the controls for a short while, which was a wonderful experience.
Riding in a Steerman over Phoenix was an amazing experience! The instructor was very friendly and the flight itself was enjoyable. He allowed me to take the controls for a while and try some maneuvers, but there was also the option to just relax as a passenger. I had a fantastic time and would certainly recommend this activity.
I arranged this open-cockpit Stearman biplane experience for my wife, and she loved it from start to finish. The flight on April 17th was exhilarating while also feeling smooth and secure. Being in the classic WWII-era Stearman with the wind rushing by provided her with a deep sense of adventure and freedom. Craig (Donald Craig Judd) was an exceptional pilot—professionally skilled, amiable, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the plane. His focus on her comfort made the experience even better. She returned with a big smile, declaring it one of the most unforgettable experiences she's had. This is a remarkable way to view the world from the skies. It was worth every penny, and I would definitely recommend this flight for anyone seeking a special experience, whether as a gift or a personal outing. You will not be disappointed.
