Being in good physical condition is important for walking over the dunes and then running at the necessary pace. Fortunately, I managed well. Overall, it was an excellent experience, especially on a pleasantly cool day with a nice wind.
The experience was enjoyable, although it didn't meet our expectations in terms of gliding higher and longer without being tethered. Nonetheless, the instructors were friendly and enthusiastic, and the dune area was fun and engaging.
The hang gliding lesson was an incredible experience. We had a helpful briefing at the school before heading to the dunes. I felt nervous on arrival, but my instructor, Burton, reassured me by reviewing everything. It turned out to be so much fun and easier than I expected—not scary at all. I completed 5 flights and wished I could have done 10 more.
We scheduled our beginner hang gliding lesson with Stephanie at Kitty Hawk Kites, who was very friendly and accommodating. However, our instructor, Drake, was unprofessional and condescending. Despite arriving 15 minutes early, the orientation started well after our scheduled time, and I felt my questions were treated as annoying. When paired with Drake and Rhodey for my flights, I found Drake's dismissive attitude troubling; he often responded to my questions as if I should have already understood everything. Rhodey was more patient and supportive. The structure of the lesson also felt odd since my husband and I were the only adults in a mixed group with children. I often felt rushed to take off without feeling fully prepared. While my husband had a better experience, I left feeling frustrated with Drake. Despite this, I would recommend the activity itself, but not with him as an instructor. It’s advisable to prepare for a hot day with little shade and to bring plenty of water, as you will get very sandy. We'd be interested in trying a tandem lesson next time.
This was an amazing experience. The instructors were friendly, patient, and did an excellent job. We were fortunate to have perfect wind conditions, which made the day truly incredible.
This experience was the best part of our trip! Ben and Legs were fantastic instructors. Everyone in our family, from ages 16 to the 60s, enjoyed successful flights. We'll certainly do this again when we're back in OBX.
The trek to the site can be challenging due to loose sand, and the hill to get into position for glides is quite steep. However, our guides, Larson and Brad, provided outstanding support.
We had an excellent time as a family. Being first-timers, we felt very safe and confident thanks to the brief training we received ahead of time. The instructors were friendly and well-informed. I definitely recommend this experience, but be ready for a good walk to the dunes.

I had an incredible experience with Johnny and Landon. They were both energetic and patient, making them excellent instructors. This is truly a memorable adventure. The communication prior to the booking was also very good, and my first interaction with the company was fantastic.
