Two hours exploring 365 small volcanic islands by boat — lush vegetation, birdwatching, stunning views of Mombacho and Ometepe.
This two-hour boat tour takes you around the Granada Islets, a stunning cluster of 365 small islands formed from volcanic eruptions of the Mombacho volcano. You’ll see lush vegetation and a variety of birdlife, offering fantastic opportunities for photography and nature observation.
The tour is best taken early in the morning or during sunset, when the light enhances the scenery and birds are most active. Expect open waters with views over Lake Nicaragua, Ometepe Island, and the Mombacho volcano. Bring a camera to capture the stunning landscapes and remember to dress for the weather.

From the moment we arrived, Welcome to Nicaragua exceeded our expectations. A friendly driver welcomed us at the airport and ensured a smooth journey to our Airbnb, making some scenic stops along the way. I arranged a tour for my daughter and me, and our guide, Abbott, was outstanding. He provided an insightful tour of Granada, sharing fascinating historical details as we explored its beautiful churches and climbed to the bell tower for stunning city views. A delightful surprise was the chocolate factory tour, which was both informative and tasty. Abbott's extensive knowledge of the local wildlife and culture greatly enriched our experience. He was professional, personable, and showed a genuine enthusiasm for sharing his homeland with tourists. Additionally, Welcome to Nicaragua spontaneously organized a trip to San Juan del Sur, adding an unforgettable element to our adventure. For anyone considering a trip to Nicaragua, I highly recommend Welcome to Nicaragua. Their exceptional service, warmth, and meticulous attention to detail made our visit truly unforgettable.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dream cruise on the serene waters surrounding Granada. Abbott picked us up from our hotel and returned us after the trip. He asked about our preferred language for explanations. We saw an astonishing variety of rare birds and beautiful monkeys. The lightning in the sky added to the experience. We highly recommend taking this cruise with Abbott. Thank you, Nicaragua. Guillaume and Clara.
The journey was enjoyable due to the capable boat captain. Our guide brought a lot of enthusiasm and was well-informed. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
I went on two excursions – Isletas de Granada and Volcan Masaya at night. My guide, Huascar, was exceptional! His extensive knowledge and willingness to answer all my questions made the experience unforgettable. I've traveled widely, but never encountered such an outstanding guide. I highly recommend him!
The private boat tour with Huascar was a truly peaceful experience. He possesses extensive knowledge about the areas and the bird species in the islets. I highly recommend it.
The boat ride around the islands was quite enjoyable. We spotted some monkeys and numerous birds. It was an excellent way to unwind.
I specifically arranged this trip to enjoy the sunset on the lake around the islets as suggested. Unfortunately, the guide was distracted and seemed unhappy about conducting the tour in English, expressing his frustrations in Spanish to the captain, which I understood. He was also engaged in a loud argument on the phone. The time spent on the boat was roughly an hour and a half, and I returned to my hostel before 6 pm, missing the sunset completely. When I asked the guide if there was a place to walk and see it, he ignored my question and only inquired if I liked the tour. We stopped at one of the islands where I was pressured into buying a coconut despite my dislike for them, leading to coconut water spilling all over me. I'm unsure what to do with the coconut now. Overall, I feel sad and disappointed. Be cautious when booking. It might be smarter to wait until you arrive in Nicaragua to make reservations.
This trip was incredible. The staff demonstrated exceptional knowledge and professionalism, exceeding expectations at every phase. I appreciated not having to drive or plan anything, as everything was arranged for me. My concerns about safety vanished; I felt secure throughout my entire stay. Despite my last-minute booking, the team efficiently accommodated me for excursions and hotel arrangements within a day. Throughout the six days, we explored rainforests, volcanoes, lakes, marshlands, and historic sites in various cities. I am grateful for such a memorable experience.
We just came back from a 7-day custom private tour visiting Granada, Matagalpa, and Leon, and it was an incredible experience for our family of six adults. Pablo crafted the ideal itinerary that catered to all our specific requests and preferences. The accommodations were excellent! Our driver, Manuel, along with our guides, were all knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. I especially valued Pablo’s quick responses to my numerous questions. I highly endorse Pablo and Welcome to Nicaragua Tours.
This is truly one of the most stunning destinations I have ever visited. The tour was excellent; both the driver and the boat operator prioritized safety, communicated well, and ensured the experience was enjoyable. I only wish I could have stayed for a longer period!
