Flexible visit of 1 to 3 hours with shuttle transfers — explore New Caledonia's unique wildlife and dry forests at your own pace.
The Zoological and Forestry Park in Nouméa sprawls over 34 hectares and serves as a sanctuary for one of the last dry forest habitats in the region. Visitors can expect to see an array of over 700 animals, including local species such as the emblematic Cagou, Flying fox, Caledonian crow, and Leach's giant gecko.
The park features various landscapes, such as dry forests, araucaria plantations, and a palm grove, offering scenic views of Nouméa and its surrounding bays. While this ticket includes shuttle transfers to the park, it's important to note that it is not a guided tour. You can choose your shuttle time from 10:30 AM, with the last departure around 2 PM, allowing for ample time to explore as you wish.
Reviews
The zoo and gardens are beautifully maintained, providing a tranquil setting. The operators have clearly put in significant effort to showcase the flora and predominantly bird life in a serene environment.
A lovely location for a peaceful stroll. The map was helpful, and the price covers both round-trip transportation and the entry fee, making it significantly cheaper than the cruise ship excursions.
The experience primarily featured birds, most of which were not native to the area. The facility fell short of contemporary zoo standards and felt quite basic. Navigation was challenging, making it not a worthwhile investment.
I participated in an excursion during my cruise and thoroughly enjoyed a peaceful morning here. It was delightful to see peacocks, numerous parrots, spider monkeys, and the Ragù, which I believe is the national bird. It was a great way to be outdoors while exploring — definitely worth a visit, and I would have loved to spend an entire day if time allowed.
The zoological park was fantastic, and we could have easily spent more time there. However, the shoreside organization by Lyvai left much to be desired, and it didn’t align with Viator's description of the experience.
It's a place to consider visiting if you have ample time. Many visitors opt for a taxi to reach the site, which costs around 1500 XPF from Andrew-Vata. There are good discounts for seniors on entry fees. The park is spacious with many tropical trees, making for shaded walks, but it also features hills, so comfortable walking shoes and a hat are recommended. Most trails are surfaced roads, and there are some inclines. The lakes are inhabited by numerous fish and eels, especially when children feed them pieces of bread. We noticed many large birds in cages, which didn’t excite us much. The reptiles were mainly visible through windows. There were plenty of butterflies around. Our visit was on April 1st, and the weather was warm, so don’t forget to take water. The staff member at the reception was very helpful.
