Reviews
This was a wonderful experience with an impressive showcase of marine life. It’s conveniently accessible from the cruise ship via the hop on hop off bus. I highly recommend it to everyone.
The Aquarium was beautiful, and the drivers were helpful once you managed to board. However, I kept missing the hop-on points as they didn't clarify that there were specific stops, which led me to use a different service for my return.
The aquarium was quite small, yet it had many interesting exhibits, including sea turtles. The bus route was brief, so I didn't get to see as much as I had anticipated. Perhaps this was due to it being a Sunday, as it only included the City Market, Lemon Bay, and the aquarium.
Getting to the aquarium was quite easy, and we were all pleasantly surprised by the variety of marine life we encountered. It was a lovely and intimate experience.
An absolute must-do experience, featuring a diverse range of marine life and stunning environments that create lasting memories.
The aquarium is definitely worth seeing as it is quite impressive. However, the hop-on hop-off bus is disappointing. We anticipated a tour around Noumea but only got a direct ride to the aquarium and back. The driver's announcements about stops were drowned out by loud advertisements on the bus. I wouldn't recommend it.
The Aquarium was decent and offered some interesting sights during our hour there. The bus primarily circled the Cruise terminal, Lemon Bay, and Aquarium area, and while the bus was comfortable, there was no commentary provided. Lunch at a restaurant in Lemon Bay was enjoyable and cost $90 AUD for two. We had a pleasant swim in the shark net enclosure, which was truly nice. Overall, I found the tour and its price satisfactory, and it made for a fulfilling day.
As cruise ship passengers are not permitted to walk through the port, we had to take the ship shuttle to reach the terminal. Upon arrival, we noticed some vendors, and a couple of staff members in Lyvai shirts were present. They inquired about our reservation and, once I confirmed, moved us to the front of the line. We received our wristbands for the hop-on hop-off bus and tickets for the aquarium with ease, contrary to what some other reviewers had indicated. Buses arrived roughly every 20 to 30 minutes, which meant we didn't face long waits. The morning market operates only in the morning, so it’s best to visit there early. The aquarium, while small, was impressive with many fascinating fish displays. Be sure to check out the turtle area outside. Other companies provide double-decker bus tours, so if that's what you're looking for, you might consider those. However, we found this service adequate for transportation, though not a narrated tour. Completing the loop takes around 45 minutes, and the aquarium is the last stop, conveniently located across from a beach, making it easy to spend a full day there if you bring your beach gear.
The hop-on hop-off bus lacked narration throughout the journey. One of the buses had graphics on the windows, making it hard to take photos. However, I appreciated the included visit to the aquarium.
The aquarium exceeded our expectations; it truly is a hidden treasure that shouldn't be overlooked. The exhibits highlight local reef ecosystems, making it a perfect complement to any snorkeling adventure. Don't forget to explore the garden area for breathtaking island views and a fantastic sea turtle tank. Plus, the museum shop is well-stocked—consider supporting their efforts by purchasing something.
