Tours and experiences in Napier that work for travellers with children — pacing built for short attention spans, snack stops, and the kind of hosts who actually want kids around. Hand-picked by Rovostays from operators we've personally vetted.
1Our most popular tour! Enjoy a full-day, self-guided biking tour (riding FUN e-bikes) to some of the regions finest wineries to enjoy wine tastings galore. We take you (and your bike) at 10am out to the stunning Cape Kidnappers where your easy, flat cycle route starts. This trail cycles past 5 award-winning wineries along a 20km stretch of easy, scenic cycle pathways. Meet our van at the last winery at Havelock North at Black Barn Vineyard for a 4pm transfer back to your pick up point. A truly memorable experience enjoying the best wineries of Hawke's Bay on a bike! If you have booked this tour on a Saturday or public holiday, we totally recommend making bookings at the wineries you want to stop at.
2This is Hawkes Bay's most iconic tour. Gannet Safaris Overland has been guiding visitors over Cape Kidnappers for over 50 years. It’s the only tour which drives you to within meters of the remarkable gannets – no walking required - traversing riverbeds, broad rolling pastures, through stands of native bush, steep gullies and breath-taking views with spectacular cliff top with panoramic views of Hawke Bay. The amazing geology of the area can also be taken in. The 36km, three hour trip includes commentary by your tour guide on the farming operation of Cape Kidnappers Station and an introduction to the gannets.
3The 6-hour tour overviews the region, highlighting art deco, orchids, vineyards, sheep farming, cattle farming, deer farming, and so much more. Spectacular rural drive and views. The history of the area, including the 1931 earthquake, is illustrated with the aid of a photo book. You will start your day learning what art deco actually is, so you know what to look out for in terms of the unique art deco found here in Napier and Hastings cities. You will visit a lovely "off-track" scenic lookout that looks out over the city of Napier, Hawkes Bay, Cape Kidnappers, and Te Mata Peak. Next, it is off through the area you have just seen along the coast, a hidden valley, and to Te Mata Peak. You will then also visit the largest honey producer in the Southern Hemisphere. You will have time for a short lunch at a cafe in the Hastings area, then back to Napier for a wine tasting before finishing back in Napier by driving through a lovingly kept art deco housing suburb.
