Charles W. Morgan Whaleship
Mystic, USA

The Charles W. Morgan is a wooden whaling ship launched in 1841, now the last surviving example of its kind in the United States. Before becoming a museum vessel, it sailed through the Pacific and the Arctic, capturing the spirit of an era defined by whaling and maritime exploration, and is currently docked at Mystic Seaport.
Visitors can explore the ship’s decks and cabins, which provide insight into the whaling industry and shipboard life in the 19th century. It's best to visit during the summer months when the museum hosts special events and demonstrations. The seaport itself offers a broad view of marine history, with numerous exhibits and nearby historic buildings.

“I gained a lot of knowledge during my visit. Highlights included the whaling ship, the printing press in the preserved village, and the 85-year-old firefighting boat that played a role during 9/11. At each exhibit, I envisioned what it must have been like to live that life at sea.”— 363kathyd on the Visit to Mystic Seaport Museum tour
