What's the itinerary?+
• Begin your day in Mysore In the morning, depart from Mysore for a full-day journey. You will meet with your driver and guide who will first take you to Shravanabelagola. • The first destination is Shravanabelagola, a renowned Jain pilgrimage site. Here, you can ascend over 600 steps to reach the summit of Vindhyagiri Hill, where a 57-foot statue of Lord Bahubali is located. If climbing is not an option, a doli service carried by individuals is available. Your guide will share spiritual and historical insights about this location. • After exploring Shravanabelagola, proceed to Belur, with a stop along the way for a traditional local lunch. Belur is known for the stunning Chennakesava Temple, a prime example of Hoysala architecture. Constructed in the 12th century, the temple is famous for its intricate stone carvings, sculpted pillars, and vividly depicted scenes from Hindu epics. Belur serves as a testament to artistic excellence and cultural heritage, providing a remarkable view into South India’s medieval craftsmanship. • The Chennakesava Temple, built in the 12th century by Hoysala King Vishnuvardhana, is a superb instance of Hoysala architecture. This temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Chennakesava), is revered for its detailed soapstone carvings and exceptional artistry. The outside walls feature intricate sculptures portraying episodes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bhagavata Purana, alongside finely crafted friezes of dancers, musicians, animals, and floral designs. Inside, beautifully polished pillars can be found, including well-known lathe-turned pillars, along with elegant Madanika (bracket) sculptures, showcasing the artistry of the Hoysala period. • Continue to Halebidu, the previous capital of the Hoysala dynasty, celebrated for its magnificent temple architecture and rich history. The Hoysaleswara Temple at Halebidu is a 12th-century architectural wonder that was built by King Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysala dynasty. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is famous for its remarkably detailed soapstone carvings, illustrating scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Puranas, along with beautifully sculpted deities, animals, and dancers. The temple features two shrines (Hoysaleswara and Shantaleswara) set on a star-shaped platform, allowing visitors to walk around and appreciate the artistry from every angle. The meticulousness and depth of the carvings make this temple one of the prime exemplars of Hoysala art, reflecting the magnificence and craftsmanship of medieval South India. • A lesser-known treasure, the 12th-century Lakshmi Devi Temple at Doddagaddavalli is among the earliest instances of Hoysala architecture. In contrast to the more elaborate Belur and Halebidu, this temple is simpler yet distinctive, housing shrines to Lakshmi, Kali, and various other deities within its compact design. • After completing the sightseeing, return to Mysore, with drop-off at the same location of pickup or any other location within Mysore.
