Below is a guide to assist in planning your visit. • Nizwa Fort, constructed in the 17th century during the Al Ya’rubi dynasty, sits atop the ruins of a 9th-century castle. The fort has been well-preserved, featuring many rooms arranged to reflect their historical use; various displays provide intriguing historical insights in different rooms. Do not miss the prisoner room and the story of how local dates were used as a weapon in wartime with a boiling date syrup cauldron. The views from the central tower are impressive and merit the climb. • This unique museum functions more as an open house than a traditional exhibit. Three women guide visitors through their historic home in the deteriorating village of Al Hamra, showcasing the making of juniper oil, Omani bread, and coffee bean grinding. Visitors can also take photos in traditional costumes.
