This half-day trip starts with a pickup from your Mumbai hotel, where you'll meet your fluent English-speaking guide. From there, head to the Gateway of India and board a ferry that will take you to Elephanta Island, known for its remarkable rock-cut temples.
Once on the island, the guided tour will focus on the historical significance and artistic grandeur of the Elephanta Caves. I’m very pleased to have visited Elephant Island and the renowned Elephanta Caves, which are mainly dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site's preservation is remarkable, and I appreciated learning more about its artwork and the historical context behind some of its damage. Thanks to Madoo for guiding us up the 120 steps, which weren't as challenging as they seemed, and for sharing his knowledge about Shiva, the caves, and the island's community. Our time with him lasted around an hour. I also want to extend my gratitude to Marshal, who accompanied us from Mumbai, managed the ticket and ferry arrangements, and provided fascinating insights about the city’s culture and history. The ferry ride was pleasant, taking about an hour each way. It's important to note that ferry and cave entrance fees are extra, but they amount to under 1000 rupees combined. The entire experience took up a morning, offering a nice break and some tranquility. I would certainly recommend this tour and a visit to Elephanta Island. While it might be fairly straightforward to organize on your own with a local guide upon arrival, I appreciated the seamless support provided by Magical Mumbai Tours.
Our visit to the Elephanta Caves was wonderful. The guide on the island was quite knowledgeable and provided a wealth of information. Juveria was instrumental in managing the entire experience. Overall, it was a fantastic tour.
I was initially greeted by a guide who was mumbling and hard to understand; he also didn't respect personal space. Once we reached the island, another guide took over and showed me the caves. While the caves were somewhat interesting, I felt I could have simply used a guidebook and the posted information instead. If you're unfamiliar with Hindu temples, it might be worth visiting, but honestly, I think I could have skipped this. The guided portion was brief, and the boat ride across the bay was the highlight. Had I known what to expect, I would have preferred to explore on my own.
Eklavya and Bankaj were wonderful hosts, providing us with a wealth of information and a friendly atmosphere. We truly enjoyed our experience.
Sahil provided us with an excellent excursion from the Gateway of India to the Elephant Caves, which were truly interesting to explore.
We had an excellent experience with this tour company, even though we made our booking on short notice. The manager was quick to respond, addressing all our inquiries and helping us identify discounts available for Indian document holders, which we greatly appreciated. We participated in the 4-6 hour Elephanta Caves tour, where our local guide from Magical Mumbai Tours did an outstanding job detailing the history of the caves and sculptures, while also allowing ample time for photos. Despite the heat, he maintained a cheerful demeanor and expanded on our questions. I would highly recommend this tour company, and they also offer women as tour guides.
Trikal guided me through the Elephanta Caves, and I came away with a solid introduction to Hindu gods, which I knew nothing about before. He was friendly, accommodating, and incredibly informative. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the culture and history, including the origins of many common words derived from Indian religion. Thank you for an enjoyable experience!
Trikal was an exceptional guide. Being a local of the island, he conveyed his passion and knowledge with a blend of humor and genuine affection.
We had an excellent time at the UNESCO-listed Elephanta Caves. Eklavya accompanied us by ferry, helping us skip the lines, and shared insights about daily life in Mumbai. After that, we met our local guide Pankaj, who led us through the site.
Pankaj, our guide, truly enhanced our experience. He provided insightful explanations about the cave's history and the Hindu philosophy associated with the statues. I highly recommend this tour.
