We experienced an unforgettable day on the Monument Valley/Mystery Valley Navajo Spirit Tour. The breathtaking scenery and close proximity to the formations made it even more special. My husband and our friends enjoyed the well-timed stops and ample photo opportunities. Our guide, Sariah Holiday, was exceptional. She shared the cultural importance of the rock formations for the Navajo and other native tribes, along with stories about films shot in the area. I particularly cherished her personal anecdotes about visiting these sites with her father, and the moment she played the flute while we absorbed the landscape was truly memorable. After a one-hour lunch break, we ventured into Mystery Valley, a restricted area accessible only with a guide. Sariah detailed the history of the Ancestral Anasazi ruins, showed us interesting petroglyphs, and explained how many of the monuments came to be. This was an incredible and meaningful experience that we will always treasure.
While I appreciated the flexibility to reschedule my tour on short notice due to illness, my overall experience was somewhat disappointing due to the guide's questionable claims. On the positive side, the driver was punctual and the transportation details were clear. I enjoyed exploring freely, as I hadn't expected to walk on the rocks. The driving was skilled, especially on the rough terrain, and the scenery, though not as famous as Monument Valley, was still striking. The guide, Will, was sociable and shared various stories, and the archaeological site was intriguing. However, there were several issues. The locked restroom at the visitor center was frustrating after a long drive, and I was disappointed that there was no flute-playing as hinted at online, leaving me feeling a lack of spiritual connection. The petroglyphs were underwhelming. Most concerning, Will's constant talking became dubious; while the first hour was informative, his subsequent claims grew increasingly implausible and contradictory. I left questioning not only his accuracy but also the number of stops we made, which felt fewer than expected based on the description. In today's age, there's a wealth of information available that should make claims more credible, but his presentation missed the mark significantly.
This tour was truly fantastic. Gary was an outstanding guide who not only showcased incredible geological and historical landmarks but also shared valuable insights into Navajo culture and lifestyle. The tour was well-timed and covered a lot of ground. We had booked a second day in Monument Valley and were worried about repeating areas, but Gary took us to different spots where we saw cliff dwellings, petroglyphs, dinosaur tracks, and extraordinary natural features. His teaching approach ensured all our questions were answered with relevant and detailed information. I highly recommend this experience.
This was truly a remarkable and unique experience. We were staying at The View, waking up to a stunning sunrise, and our time with Sariah exceeded our expectations. As a Brit, I rarely use the term 'awesome,' but it fits here. Our journey began at the Welcome Centre, and we met Sariah quickly. We enjoyed our ride in an open-top jeep, and though the March sun was shining, the wind was quite chilly, so we were grateful for our warm clothes. Sariah impressed us with her driving skills and guiding abilities, even assisting me with a stool to get into the jeep due to my short stature. She shared insightful stories about her family and Navajo culture, encouraging us to ask any questions. We inquired about everything from rock formations to cultural ceremonies, and Sariah answered knowledgeably, even demonstrating the interaction of sand and water in the valley. Our route included multiple significant sites such as the Mittens, Merrick Butte, John Ford Point, Hõghan, Sun's Eye Petroglyphs, Moccasin Arch, and the Ear of the Wind. The highlight for me was reclining on the warm sandstone as Sariah played traditional Navajo flute music. The music, landscape, and beautiful weather made for a deeply spiritual experience. I chose Navajo Spirit Tours after seeing recommendations in various Facebook travel groups while planning this 'bucket list' adventure, and I was not disappointed. This tour felt authentic and personal, and I was grateful to avoid the large group tours with loudspeakers. The tranquility of the valley added to its spirit, making for an unforgettable adventure.
I had an exceptional experience on the all-day combination tour of Monument Valley and Mystery Valley. Our guide Gary led us to breathtaking, remote sites and shared insights on history, geology, and Navajo mythology. He took us to Anasazi ruins and performed traditional music using flute, drum, and voice in stunning natural rock amphitheaters. He also taught us the Dine names of various formations. Gary was approachable and engaged in diverse cultural discussions. The experience surpassed my expectations and was well worth the cost.
Sean was an outstanding host and guide. He was knowledgeable, helpful, and entertaining, making the experience truly enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour.
My experience with Navajo Spirit Tours was truly unforgettable. I opted for the full-day tour that encompassed Monument Valley in the morning and Mystery Valley in the afternoon. Our guide Sariah was fantastic; her insights and stories added so much depth to what we were witnessing. While Monument Valley is breathtaking, Mystery Valley has its own unique beauty. If you're considering whether to choose just Monument Valley or both, I highly recommend doing both. Their commitment to making you feel like part of the experience rather than just a tourist is indeed accurate.
I’m thrilled to have discovered this tour. Our guide, who shares my son's name, demonstrated extensive knowledge about the ancestral ways of life in this area. He accommodated our requests and ensured we saw everything we wanted, including the moki steps. We visited several dwellings, granaries, and a Kiva, while also experiencing numerous pictographs, each accompanied by thorough explanations. This tour provided valuable insights, even for beginners like us. I'm grateful for the opportunity to explore this special place and hear its precious stories.
Will Cowboy was a superb guide who shared a wealth of interesting information. He made the experience enjoyable, and the sights we visited were breathtaking. I highly recommend this tour.
Our tour of Mystery Valley was unforgettable, guided by Gary. It was truly a unique experience that you have to see for yourself. We highly recommend joining Navajo Spirit Tours for this adventure.
