Reviews
The trip was fantastic, and I would definitely recommend it. However, our transport was canceled the day before, and we almost missed our booking because we had to drive ourselves, which we were only informed of an hour prior to the rafting.
The trip began with a lecture on safety, where we were warned that someone might fall into the water. The guide demonstrated what to do in case of a fall. We practiced rescuing each other in a calm area before our first run, which went relatively well with only two falls from our raft, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. However, the second run was drastically different. The guide opted for approaches that ensured multiple people would be thrown into the water, leading to my falling four times (three during the second run). My two sons, aged 15 and 20, also fell three times each, and our raft flipped twice, once with the guide being thrown out too. It seemed like everyone was tossed into the water that day, and no raft went unturned. While safety kayaks and other rafts were present, I noticed other companies navigating the same rapids without experiencing flips. One of my fellow rafters from Mexico and I fell at the start of the "Washing Machine" rapid. I managed to reach the shore but got scraped by rocks, while he was swept down the rapid for over 75 meters. While all rafting carries risks, falling four times because the guide was intent on creating a thrilling experience crossed a line for me. Years ago, I went rafting with OWL rafting, and not a single person fell in; only one smaller raft overturned all day. That prior experience led me to select this outfit again. Had I been aware of this outfitter's approach and the guides’ intent to make sure everyone had to "experience" being thrown into the water, I wouldn’t have returned for a second time. Thankfully, we escaped with relatively minor injuries, but I now have no desire to go white water rafting again because of this experience.
