If you’re visiting, you’ll definitely want to take a tour. These tours are operated by a private company, not the park service. Our guide, Josh, provided a thorough overview of the mine during the two-hour experience. The walk to the 14-story processing building is steep, and wearing a hard hat is essential due to the numerous cross members you could bump into. Be aware of tripping hazards as well. Access to this building and the leaching plant is only available through a guided tour. At $34 plus tip, it’s a great deal.
Exploring Mill Town on your own is possible, but taking the guided tour is definitely worth it to get access to the mill and learn about life there. Rob was an outstanding guide, providing engaging commentary as we delved into this piece of history.
The tour provided an exceptional experience, offering valuable insights into our nation's history. It was both informative and enjoyable. We strongly recommend it.
The mill tour is an absolute must-do in Kennecot! While the root glacier hike is also enjoyable, the mill tour truly stands out as the highlight of the experience.
A huge thank you to Orion for providing such an enjoyable experience during our tour of Kennicott Mill. His knowledge of the mill and Kennicott's history was impressive. He interacted well with everyone while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor. We truly had a fantastic time. Thank you, Orion!
We participated in a three-day package that included the Mill Town Tour, rafting on the Kennicott River, and an all-day glacier hike. Every guide showed exceptional knowledge and expertise. Our visit was unforgettable. During our time at the park, we lodged at Currant Ridge cabins, located two miles from McCarthy, and enjoyed a local play about McCarthy's history.
The guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable. The scenery was beautiful as we explored nature and viewed the exterior of the mine. Inside the mine, there are steep stairs to navigate, but support is provided with handrails, allowing you to proceed at your own pace. Overall, it was a very informative and enjoyable experience.
Exceeded our expectations and it was fascinating to explore the old copper mill. The guide demonstrated a wealth of knowledge and addressed all of our inquiries thoroughly.
Pat, our guide, was exceptionally knowledgeable and addressed all our questions. The tours provide deep insight into the mining operation and its history. Highly recommended as a must-do when in Kennecott.
The staff is extremely knowledgeable, and the location is fantastic for hiking and exploration. The van shuttle made getting there easy. This is definitely a must-add to your bucket list.
