The tour started on time with our local guide Pasquale, who was engaging and well-prepared. He immersed us in the spirit of Matera by sharing fascinating stories about the city’s history, its famous male and female names, film locations, local culinary delights, and the contrasts of redevelopment. We also learned about the architecture of the "sassi" in Sasso Caveoso and Sasso Barisano, as well as the rock churches carved into the tuff. After nearly three hours, the tour concluded with a visit to a "stone" house and a small rock church, where we enjoyed a performance of traditional peasant songs, accompanied by the singer on a gloomy-cupa, a musical instrument typical of southern Italy.
The guide was exceptional, giving us insight into Matera's dual aspects, covering both traditions and art while we explored the stunning streets of the Sassi. I highly recommend this tour for a complete experience of the city of stones.

The size of the tour group was too large, making it less engaging and informative. It's surprising to spend that much for around 35 participants. Although our guide, a woman with white and red hair, was knowledgeable and friendly, I wouldn’t suggest this tour.
Our experience began poorly when we received a call about our timeslot being canceled, forcing us to join an earlier or later tour. We opted for the English tour with guide Anna, which cost significantly more than the Italian one, yet provided limited value. The tour was filled with vague information about the Sassi and felt like an attempt to upsell other tours. Anna's delivery was repetitive and failed to create any excitement, resulting in a dull experience. As young professionals, we were eager to learn about the city's rich history, but that didn’t happen. Later, we visited Casa Noha, which was far more informative, interesting, and enjoyable, offering a much better value for our money.
