Having previously enjoyed an excursion with this operator, I opted for the Murgia Materana tour this time. Once again, our guide, Federico, provided a fascinating experience, revealing a different aspect of Matera's history with insights into its geological, botanical, faunal, and religious significance. The two-hour tour concluded beautifully with a breathtaking view of the sunset over the city from the caves, as the lights began to illuminate the landscape. The walk through nature and the caves was delightful—there's an alternative outdoor option for those with claustrophobia—making it suitable for participants of all ages. Reaching the Murgia takes just five minutes via comfortable buses departing from Passi nei Sassi’s base, with a cost of 25 euros per person.
The sunset tour on the Murgia was breathtaking. Highly recommended, especially due to our guide Federico. He was very knowledgeable, professional, and personable, truly sharing his passion for the area. He deserves 10 stars. Silvia, Laura, and Giusy from Pisa.
I highly recommend both tours; they were beautiful. The tour through the historic center and Matera's Sassi was captivating, showcasing its history and popular culture. The Murgia tour was nice too, though it was quite cold with strong winds.
We participated in both the city tour and the park experience, and I highly recommend them. The guides have a genuine love for the city, which they passionately share. Grace was particularly outstanding.
We utilized both guided tours, Murgia and stones, which we highly recommend, as well as the transfer service that was more convenient and cost-effective than parking, fuel, or rental expenses (the bus had inconvenient schedules and our time was limited). The guided tours were well executed and very engaging.
The tour was poorly organized and started 45 minutes late. I regret spending money on it and recommend exploring independently or choosing another tour. Our guide had limited proficiency in English, despite paying extra for an English tour, and I found myself using Google Translate often. He provided far less information than the Italian guide present, even when prompted. Our guide lacked the resources like a torch and pointer that would have enhanced the experience. Overall, the quality of the English tour was noticeably inferior. Unless you have great weather and a beautiful sunset, this tour is likely to disappoint.
Michele (Michael), our guide, was fantastic and had extensive knowledge of both the native plants and the history of Matera. The tour included a pleasant van ride to a viewpoint for a stunning sunset. The walking path was straightforward and easy, requiring little stair climbing. You could truly sense Michele's love for Matera.
We had an excellent tour led by our guide, Michael, who was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the information he provided. The combination of history, plant life, and wildlife was enjoyable, and the bus rides made it easier for one of us with limited mobility to participate, needing only minimal assistance at a short section of the trail. Although it was cloudy and we missed the sunset, the town's nighttime illumination was stunning and definitely worth witnessing.
Visiting the cave dwellings and exploring the history of this Paleolithic city was genuinely enchanting and felt like stepping back in time.
The excursion to Murgia Park was stunning, giving us the chance to explore areas around the Sassi district of Matera. We visited a cave church, discovered old refrigeration techniques, and learned about local flora. The weather was pleasant, although the low cloud cover that evening obscured the spectacular sunset we anticipated. On the bright side, we were able to admire the illuminated Sassi area of Matera from across the canyon. Our guide was highly knowledgeable and responsive to our inquiries. Overall, it was a delightful and enjoyable experience.
