Reviews
My day started at 6 am with an enthusiastic Marcela, who maintained high energy throughout our visits and the ride back. The driver was courteous, allowing for a comfortable, relaxing trip. This tour effectively covers a lot in one day, with perfect timing at each stop—never rushed or left idle. I appreciated the inclusion of some tasty Mexican food, along with vegetarian and vegan choices.
Pastor was an exceptional tour guide who provided an incredible experience. He was very supportive in helping us grasp the Mayan culture, assisting my family members with disabilities, and ensuring that no one felt excluded.
This tour is absolutely essential for anyone interested in Mayan history. Kevin, our guide, is incredibly knowledgeable and has a strong background in anthropology. His passion for sharing insights about Mayan culture and other indigenous groups in Mexico made the experience entertaining and fun. He was well-organized and punctual. I felt secure with Jose driving, and I truly couldn't have asked for a better day. I highly recommend this experience.
The guide was friendly, engaging, and well-informed about the Mayan culture. However, the visit to Chichen Itza felt brief, and there seemed to be an excess of free time.
I had a fantastic experience exploring the Mayan ruins with a native guide. Frank was exceptionally knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. Our driver, Graciel, along with the van and the company's services, was timely and efficient. While Chichen Itza was fascinating, I appreciated visiting Ek'Balam, where we were able to climb the ruins. Although it was a long day, Frank ensured our comfort and attended to all our needs. Climbing in the January sun was a bit warm, but overall, the weather was mostly ideal. Frank also shared insightful information about the local flora and fauna.
Jorge and José were quite pleasant. Our guide Jorge was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, effectively managing our time for activities. However, we were surprised by some additional payments required. The bus was comfortable and air-conditioned with a smooth drive. Be cautious of extra fees at the archaeological sites for using equipment like GoPros or gimbals, so it's wise to bring extra cash. We started our tour at 6 am; no snacks were provided, and we had a buffet lunch at around 1 pm, which was unfortunately cold and not very good. They do accept cards at the site.
This experience was absolutely worth both the expense and the time invested. Our driver, Jose, and our guide, Garri, were timely, knowledgeable, humorous, and accommodating. I cannot emphasize enough how beneficial it was to visit the sites before the crowds arrived. By the time we left Chichen Itza, it had become significantly busier, so I appreciated the opportunity to explore early with far fewer people around. Choosing a tour that swapped Valladolid for Ek Balam was a fantastic decision. While Chichen Itza was incredible, climbing the ruins at Ek Balam and seeing the well-preserved carvings was truly impressive. Cenote Chichikan was lovely and relatively uncrowded. The buffet met expectations, so we had no complaints there. The day is lengthy, so make sure to bring water and snacks, along with cash for souvenirs, tips, and meals. Be aware that there were extra charges not included in the initial price, which were clearly communicated beforehand as needing to be paid either on the day or the day prior. Extra costs included: - Life Jacket & Lockers at the cenote ($100MXN) - Government Tax at Chichen Itza ($571MXN) - Entry to Ek Balam ($481MXN) These additional expenses totaled approximately $90CAD per person. One piece of advice is to skip the tequila tasting offered at the end of the tour. They claim it is exclusive, but the tequila is simply mass-produced and relabeled. You can find the same bottles in any tourist area throughout Playa or Cancun, so avoid falling for this tourist trap. Our guides also recommended against purchasing items at Chichen Itza, advising us to wait for the designated shopping spot, but what you find there is similar to what you see in other tourist locales. Since the guides earn a commission on these sales, it’s better to avoid overpaying and instead tip them generously after your tour.
Avoid booking with this company if you want to steer clear of last-minute cancellations that could disrupt your holiday. This was the sole tour we arranged, but we were informed unexpectedly that it was canceled due to “unforeseen reasons.” It appears they frequently cancel tours unless they reach full capacity. I wish I had heeded the previous reviews warning about this issue with Amigo tours and chosen a more dependable provider. Proceed with caution.
This tour is an excellent choice for those interested in exploring Mayan archaeological sites and cenotes. A fantastic guide and a delicious buffet meal contributed to a wonderful day in Yucatan.
It was a fantastic day. I enjoyed every part of it, and it was a great deal for the price. Our guide Frank and driver Hose were outstanding. I highly recommend this experience.
