Six hours exploring Manta’s rainforest and local culture — from the fish market to a scenic lighthouse, including lunch at a rainforest restaurant.
This tour provides a mix of nature, culture, and local cuisine over six hours. The journey begins at the fish market, where you'll observe the lively atmosphere and see fresh seafood being sold, along with the boats being built nearby. A stop at a local factory allows you to witness the traditional weaving of Toquilla hats and purchase one for a souvenir.
After the market, venture into the rainforest, keeping an eye out for howler monkeys among other wildlife. The tour culminates at a lighthouse that offers panoramic ocean views. Lunch awaits at one of the restaurants nestled in the rainforest, providing a relaxed finish to a day filled with local insights. Note that the trail at Pacoche includes 1300 metres of strenuous walking; comfortable footwear is recommended, and it may not be suitable for those with heart or mobility issues.
Reviews
The tour was canceled due to insufficient bookings, which was disappointing because I was really looking forward to it, especially since there isn’t much to do in Manta.
Jose was an outstanding guide, very knowledgeable, friendly, and had an impressive command of English. The pre-tour communication was clear and beneficial. Each stop offered a unique experience, and the time allocated to each was perfect. Lunch was both intriguing and tasty, and Nelson drove carefully and safely. With a group size of 12, it felt manageable.
Jose exceeded all expectations as a guide; he was very engaging and presented himself impeccably. Nelson, the bus driver, also did an excellent job.
Jose, our guide, was outstanding. This tour offers a wonderful blend of local culture, culinary experiences, and adventure. The lunch provided was both authentic and tasty. I highly recommend it.
Our experience exploring Manta and its surroundings with our guide Dennis was wonderful. The meetup at the cruise terminal was punctual. We particularly enjoyed visiting the local fish market to see the day's fresh catch. The locals were friendly, which made us feel safe. Lunch at a nearby restaurant was also pleasant. We would gladly choose Manta SOS again on our next visit.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience on our private tour with Jorge and driver Samuel. The visits to the fish market and boat yard were fascinating. We enjoyed a private excursion into the rainforest, where we spotted a tiger tarantula, a tiny frog, and heard howler monkeys in the canopy, even catching glimpses of them in the distance. We gained valuable knowledge about the trees and plants in the rainforest. After that, we had an incredible lunch featuring tongas. Our day continued with a trip to the beach to observe turtle nests and a challenging hike to the lighthouse, which was strenuous yet stunning, with Jorge ensuring we could complete the climb. Later, we visited Montecristi to see how hats are made and discovered a fantastic, affordable chocolate shop. We returned to our ship with ample time to spare, tired but grateful for choosing Manta SOS and this private tour, all thanks to our excellent guide and driver. You can book with confidence.
The outdoor activities were quite limited, with just a few trees and two monkeys in a park-like area. The lunch provided by a local restaurant was unsatisfactory; the chicken was undercooked and drenched in peanut butter sauce, and there was no inquiry about peanut butter allergies.
Better than anticipated overall. While there was excessive time spent at the fish market, the remainder of the tour was well-structured and balanced.
Denis, our guide, was fantastic and contributed greatly to our enjoyable day. The forest walk had limited sights, as the monkeys didn't appear. However, the traditional Ecuadorian lunch was delightful, and the hat-making demonstration was quite intriguing. Overall, it was a good day in Ecuador.
The day in Manta was fantastic, featuring a nice blend of the fish market, city sights, and a visit to the Rain Forest. Our guide, Denis, was wonderful and kept us entertained. Unfortunately, we didn't see any monkeys today.
