The day began a bit chaotically, but Fernando and his wife successfully got us to our group. We enjoyed a pleasant break for coffee or soda while taking in the city's beautiful view. The visit to Montecristi, where we learned about the creation of Ecuadorian hats and explored the church, was a highlight. It would have been helpful for the tour guide to better communicate the schedule regarding when to be ready and the bus departure times, but overall it was a solid tour.
This half-day excursion from the cruise port of Manta is convenient and easy to navigate, with a reliable return time. Our guide, Mariss, was excellent, very accommodating, and spoke English fluently. The small group format allowed us to enjoy highlights like the fish market, Montecristi, and shopping. However, the visit to Casa Rosada took way too long—over an hour instead of the 15 minutes planned. A stop for local chocolate, a noted highlight in Manta, would improve the experience.
The tour of Manta, known as the “tuna” capital, was very engaging, but the highlight was visiting the hat museum in Montecristi. We gained insights into the creation of Panama hats—truly a fascinating art form. We also explored Casa Rosada, enjoying coffee and delicious empanadas there.
The tour really needs to start later. Due to the limited control over when we could disembark from the ship, we missed the departure. Maria, the guide, wasn't effective; she struggled with giving clear meeting instructions during our free time and then criticized us for not following them. We lost track of her twice as she rushed ahead and didn’t check if we were following. She was the worst guide I've encountered. However, Alejandro was excellent. He kindly drove us and others to catch up with the tour after it left without us. If they delay the start time by half an hour and find a new guide to replace Maria, it could be a pleasant experience.
I had an amazing experience! Fernando took me to many different places, and we were fortunate enough to witness a full firefighter drill in Montecristi. The beauty of Restaurant Rosa and the church, along with its rich history, was impressive. Overall, I’d rate it a perfect 10/10 and highly recommend it.
We opted for a private tour of Manta and Montecristi, and it was a fantastic choice. Mauro tailored the experience to our interests, including a visit to the fish market, a delicious dining spot in the old city where he treated us to lemonade, an engaging and educational experience at Modesto Hats, and a stop at Samor, an artisan chocolate shop where we sampled chocolates and met the owner. Throughout the tour, Mauro shared insights into the historical, cultural, geographical, economic, and personal aspects of the area. He is an outstanding guide, and we highly recommend this tour. Thank you to Narwell Tours and Mauro Alvarez.
I highly recommend this tour, especially if you have Mauro as your guide; it makes the half-day experience even more enjoyable. Having a private tour gave us flexibility, and Mauro’s local insights into Manta and Montechristi enhanced our experience. Thank you, Fernando and Narwell Tours, for your excellent communication.
Victor is an organized guide, and it was fascinating to visit the fish market, cacao factory, and traditional hat-making site.
The tour matched the description perfectly. Gabby, our guide, did a fantastic job providing information at each stop and ensured everything went smoothly.
The minibus was modern and comfortable. Although the guide was not from Manta, he was well-versed in the area’s history and landmarks. With family ties to the fishing industry, we explored several relevant sites related to shipbuilding and fishing. Refreshments were provided at a mansion that has been converted into a restaurant/museum. The journey to Montecristi offered insights into local daily life. Once there, the tour involved significant walking, including hills and stairs. We visited the historic church, an active marketplace in the plaza, and walked to the Panama hat factory and store. The demonstrations were engaging, with audience participation. The atmosphere was very charming and laid-back.
