Pedro was an excellent guide, and the small-batch family-run businesses offered high-quality products and impressive demonstrations. My only issue was the large group of 16, which made things somewhat chaotic and caused us to miss shopping time at the coffee farm. We also had to rush back to the ship. I would recommend this tour for its fantastic experiences, but you might want to consider a private booking.
It was an enjoyable tour where I gained a lot of knowledge about chocolate, coffee, and hats. The guides were very knowledgeable.
We spent a fantastic day with Pedro. He greeted us at the cruise terminal holding a sign with our family name, making him easy to spot. We received a note a few days before asking us to arrive by 8:15, but we were 2-3 minutes late due to needing to take a bus down the pier. However, Pedro was already there waiting for us. Our van accommodated eight people despite holding twelve, which made for a comfortable journey. We began by learning about Panama hats, followed by a visit to a chocolate factory, lunch, and a coffee plantation. All the stops were enjoyable. At the Panama hat store, no one spoke English, so Pedro interpreted for us, which was the only downside. The chocolate factory was a highlight since we learned the traditional chocolate-making method and got to sample plenty. Lunch included various local options such as bolon and pastillito, alongside traditional meals like ham and cheese sandwiches or fries, catering to everyone's taste. We concluded the day at the coffee plantation, which was both fascinating and informative. Pedro was very kind, and since my son was the only child in the group, he received plenty of special attention, which delighted us.
This tour with Pedro was fantastic. We had an enjoyable day starting with a lesson on the making of Panama hats, followed by a visit to a local chocolate maker where we sampled various chocolates and prepared hot chocolate from scratch. We then had lunch before heading to a coffee plantation where our guide provided great insights and we tasted different coffees. Overall, the experience exceeded my expectations. Kudos to Pedro and his young assistant.
Our experience on the tour with Christian was great. He provided insightful information about his life in Ecuador, the indigenous communities, and the distinctiveness of the land. We enjoyed a private visit to the Paroche Coffee farm, where we learned various coffee-making methods. Additionally, we observed Panama hat weaving in Montecristi and toured a chocolate factory in Manta, where the chocolate samples were plentiful and tasty. The small group allowed for excellent personalized attention.
Tony was outstanding, and we truly enjoyed every location he brought us to. I would definitely recommend this tour, as the driver was also very skilled.
Chris, our tour guide, was outstanding. As an American expat, he spoke English exceptionally well and was also fluent in Spanish, helping us understand the local presenters. We gained valuable insights into Ecuador, coffee, chocolate, and Panama hats while exploring the city and surrounding towns.
I gained more insights about coffee than I ever expected. Chris was an outstanding guide, incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Ecuador. I would definitely recommend this tour to others; there's not much walking involved.
It was a wonderful experience. Christian was exceptional and essential as a translator. The only downside was the excessive waiting time for our turn at various spots, as there were too many tours at once.
The tour was excellent, featuring a visit to a third-generation Montecristi Panama hat factory where we witnessed a woman weaving hats for 54 years. We learned about the steaming process for shaping a traditional fedora and had time to shop if desired. The entire staff was very accommodating. Next, we stopped at a lookout point offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, followed by an artisanal coffee plantation where we discovered various coffee-making techniques and sampled a few. Lunch was at a beachfront restaurant, affordable with generous portions, so sharing a dish is advisable. Finally, we toured an artisan chocolate factory, learning about the creation of traditional coffee and modern chocolate, while enjoying chocolate samples and shopping options. All establishments we visited are locally owned small businesses. I highly recommend this tour, with great guidance from Tony and our driver Caesar.
