This experience combines elements of ‘Pokémon Go’ and an ‘Escape Room’. You can register via the free ‘Hearo’ app or ‘Trip Advisor’. After payment, you'll receive a code to download a game on your iPhone featuring Marvel-style graphics, character profiles, audio clues, and location images that connect easily to your car's navigation system through Apple Car Play. Everyone who pays can use the code to download the game on different phones for individual access. In our group of two, one phone was paired with the car navigation while the other played the audio clues. Though the game suggests using headphones or earbuds, we chose to listen together with the phone’s volume up while driving. I recommend having a notebook and pen handy to jot down important information from the audio clues. The game leads you to 11 safe spots, including parking lots, restaurants, parks, and malls, primarily in well-known locations throughout Ashburn and Sterling, with many dining options nearby for breaks. It’s designed to allow you to stay in the car while answering questions for points. We attempted this at night, but daytime might be preferable for those unfamiliar with the area. As it's self-guided, after making your payment and downloading the game, you can start anytime and take as long as you'd like. I’m unsure if the code has a time limit, but I retained access for at least 24 hours following my purchase. We, two adults celebrating a birthday, found this enjoyable, and it’s also suitable for couples, groups of friends, or teens. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for younger kids due to occasional strong language and somewhat violent themes. It could also be attempted solo, although managing both driving and taking notes might extend the playtime. If you're a mystery enthusiast or wish to discover popular spots in the Ashburn/Sterling area, I suggest giving this activity a try.
