• Agni Teertha is a large sacred tank associated with the Ramayana. It is at this site that Lady Sita requested Lord Lakshman to ignite a fire and entered it to demonstrate her purity. Agni Theertham is significant to devotees who visit to offer prayers and seek atonement for sins by bathing in its holy waters. Childless couples also visit the site, and it is believed that taking a holy dip and praying to Lord Shiva here can bless them with children. There are 22 Theerthams, or holy water bodies, within the temple where devotees bathe for atonement. Each water body symbolizes the 22 arrows in Rama’s quiver and holds particular importance for worshippers. • The next stop is the Ramanathaswamy temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to legend, Lord Ram came here to pray to Lord Shiva to repent for the sins he committed during the great war of the Ramayana. The temple, dating back to the 12th century, features a long corridor adorned with intricately carved pillars. We will pay our respects to the main deity worshiped here as two lingams: one made of sand by Lady Sita and another brought from Mount Kailash by Hanuman. Following the worship, we will conclude our visit at the world's longest temple corridor, which boasts over a thousand pillars. Built in the late 18th century by Muthuramalinga Setupati, this corridor measures 640 feet north-south, 400 feet east-west, and stands nearly 7 meters tall. • Dating back over a thousand years, this temple is dedicated to Lord Ram and is situated on an island surrounded by the Bay of Bengal and the Gulf of Mannar. Legend has it that Vibhishanan, the brother of Ravana, surrendered to Lord Rama at this location, leading to Vibhishanan being crowned to rule Sri Lanka. The temple was also included in Swami Vivekananda's itinerary during his notable Chicago visit for the World Parliament of Religions. This site was one of the few structures that survived the devastating cyclone of 1964, which destroyed much of the surrounding area. • The viewpoint for the Ram Sethu bridge can be found near the Kodandarama temple. It is important to note that the legendary bridge is currently submerged underwater and cannot be seen directly; we will only view the area where the remnants of the bridge remain beneath the water. • We will then proceed to the picturesque beach at Danushkodi, a former thriving town devastated by a tsunami. It is acclaimed as one of the finest white sand beaches in India, located at the junction of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. • A visit to the Hanuman temple is next, where we will observe a piece of the floating stone used to construct the Ram Sethu bridge. The Five Faced Hanuman temple displays the face of Hanuman in the center, with the faces of Lord Narasimha, Lord Adivaraha, Lord Garuda, and Lord Hayagriva on the sides. • The highest point in Rameshwaram features the imprints of Lord Rama on a chakra. It is believed to be where Lord Rama and his army rested before planning the assault on Lanka. According to legend, Lord Ram stood here looking out for the whereabouts of Lady Sita.
