• The town is built around the Meenakshi Amman temple, which features Dravidian architecture. Every traditional Hindu temple, including Meenakshi temple, opens at dawn, reflecting the custom of waking the deity through classical music accompanied by morning prayers. At night, during the final prayer, God Siva, who is Meenakshi's husband, is usually carried in a palanquin from his shrine to his home, where Goddess Meenakshi awaits. This vibrant procession includes music and a gathering of devotees. Once God Siva arrives at his residence, he rests in a silver bed chamber. The morning ritual is traditionally called Thirupalli Ezhuchi, meaning wake-up prayer or morning prayer. The night ritual is referred to as the closing ceremony, bed chamber ceremony, or night ceremony.
