Central Lucknow boasts wide avenues, monuments, parks, and gardens. You will visit the esteemed boarding institution, La Martiniere, designed by Frenchman Claude Martin as his grand residence. The building showcases a facade that combines Roman arches with Gothic elements and includes turrets and gargoyles atop a series of Corinthian columns. • The tour includes a stop at the Lucknow Residency, significant for its role during the First War of Independence (Indian Uprising) in 1857, where the Siege of Lucknow lasted for 147 days, resulting in the deaths of 2,197 defenders. A prominent landmark in Lucknow is the Asafi Imambara, constructed in 1775 by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula during a time of famine, as a means to provide jobs for the local populace. The complex encompasses a hall, mosque, gardens, and a stepwell, with a labyrinth adjacent to the central hall that connects to narrow passageways and rooftop balconies.
