7Visiting the Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches in Ethiopia is a remarkable experience. These churches, carved directly into the rock, are among the most impressive examples of medieval Ethiopian architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Lalibela, once the capital of the Zagwe dynasty in the 12th and 13th centuries, is home to 11 monolithic churches that were carved out of volcanic tuff. They are often referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World" due to their incredible craftsmanship and spiritual significance
