Two hours under the pristine skies of Elqui Valley with telescopes and guided stargazing, including a photo to commemorate the night.
This two-hour astronomical observation experience in the Elqui Valley offers a unique look at the cosmos through electronic telescopes. Depending on the season, you can expect to see captivating celestial objects such as nebulae, star clusters, and planets. A knowledgeable guide uses a laser pointer to highlight major constellations and share engaging stories about the universe's origins.
The experience begins with pickup at your accommodation around 6 to 6:30 PM during the summer or from 5 PM in winter. You'll also receive a photograph taken against the backdrop of some of the clearest skies in the world, creating a lasting memory of your night among the stars.

The tour commenced at 9am with our guides, one who spoke Spanish and another who communicated in English, picking us up from our AirBnB in Coquimbo. Our first stop was the tranquil Elqui River on our route into the valley. Following that, we visited a market to sample papaya products. We then proceeded to the Puclaro Dam, which provided a lovely photo opportunity. Lunch was at a solar oven restaurant, where the delicious food came with a drink and dessert. We also made a stop at a nearby town to explore the Gabriela Mistral museum, which featured several photos, artifacts, and personal belongings, making it both educational and entertaining. Next, we toured the winery Cavas del Valle, where we had tastings and the option to buy wine. We also visited a pisqueria, which offered tastings and a chance to purchase pisco. In Vicuna, we checked out various landmarks and had dinner (not included). Our final stop was the Mamalluca Observatory, and we were fortunate to be in the smaller English-speaking group of about ten, compared to the Spanish group of over 100. We used a telescope to view the moon and planets before stargazing and learning about constellations, which was a magical experience. We returned to our AirBnB around 12:30AM. Our guides were knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating, and easy to get along with. It was a packed day, but a fantastic way to explore everything the valley offers.
It was a fantastic experience filled with insightful information; the hour went by quickly. We were able to observe over four celestial objects. The final photo turned out great.
The guide from Astronias was excellent, and the three high-quality telescopes allowed us to view numerous stars without much waiting. The night sky in the Elquí Valley is stunning and truly makes this experience worthwhile.
It was an enchanting evening. The journey through the Elqui Valley was filled with insightful commentary. The Astronomer was very passionate while explaining everything, making it a truly magical experience.
Onias provided a very clear explanation, offering a presentation that effectively sets the stage for what you'll be observing and anticipating. Since it takes place outdoors, it's advisable to dress warmly.
The tour named Astronias is a recent offering that stood out among others we have experienced. It was highly educational and engaging, set in a mystical location. I wholeheartedly recommend Astronias, as well as the agency La Serena Tour, which provided an excellent, punctual service with a well-prepared guide who was a true expert in the subject, and a comfortable vehicle. Truly a great experience.
I had a wonderful experience. Onias provided an excellent explanation and was charming. The night sky was stunning to observe with the naked eye, and the equipment was top-notch.
We learned about various stars and had the opportunity to observe them through telescopes. Seeing the moon and Jupiter was truly beautiful. Just a tip: dress warmly, a light jacket or windbreaker is ideal.
The trip was exceptionally well-coordinated, including suggestions for activities, and the arrival and return to our accommodation were smooth. Our driver, Don Cristian, was friendly and shared a lot about the region. It was my first experience with this kind of travel, and I would definitely do it again, thanks to the efforts of Turismo La Serena.
It was a nice experience overall, though it wasn't in a dome, which left me a bit uncertain about my surroundings. Once everything was revealed, it was truly beautiful, but I felt information was lacking.
