Fort Boyard
La Rochelle, France

Fort Boyard is a 19th-century fortress located in the Pertuis d’Antioche strait, between the Îles de Oléron and Aix, originally built to defend the coast of France against British invasions. Its imposing stone structure stretches 68 metres in length and offers a striking silhouette against the ocean, making it a recognizable landmark.
Visiting gives a view of the fort's historical architecture and the surrounding waters, best appreciated from a boat tour or while enjoying the sights from the nearby Île d’Aix. The region is popular in summer, but the unpredictable weather can be a factor, so plan accordingly.
