Aquarium La Rochelle
La Rochelle, France

Aquarium La Rochelle is one of the largest aquariums in Europe, featuring over 12,000 marine species from the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, and tropical oceans. Opened in 1988, its modern design highlights various aquatic environments, including a massive underwater tunnel that immerses visitors in a striking display of sea life.
Plan for a couple of hours to fully explore the exhibits, especially the large shark tank and the interactive experiences for children. The aquarium is located near the historic port, making it easy to combine with a stroll along the waterfront or a visit to the nearby maritime museum. Consider visiting in the morning to avoid the midday crowds.

“Recommended by the staff at the Best Western Masq Hotel, this restaurant has a lovely view of the yacht harbour, making it a great spot to observe the local scene. The menu mainly features fish and seafood, with just a couple of meat options, and it was bustling even early in the evening, indicating its popularity. My wife and I ordered from the main menu, starting with salmon carpaccio and a prawn and avocado terrine, followed by baked hake with risotto and a cream/mustard/lemon sauce, as well as a bake of three fish and vegetables. Everything was exceptional and elegantly presented, complemented by excellent service and a delightful Pouilly-Fumé. We will definitely return and are glad to recommend it.”— Tarasap on the Audio-guided walking tour of La Rochelle tour
