Cueva de Las Palomas was created following the volcanic eruption of San Juan Volcano in 1949. The cave features over 10 openings that allow natural light to penetrate at various points along the path; some of these openings were once fumaroles associated with the release of lava and hot sulfurous gases during the tube's formation. The cave measures approximately 3 meters in width and stretches about 560 meters in length. Its geological significance is notable, further underscored by its biological importance as it is home to a unique array of invertebrate fauna.
