A 45-minute trek to Tamanique Waterfalls, followed by a surf session at El Tunco Beach and lunch at a local eatery.
This activity combines a 45-minute trek to the Tamanique Waterfalls, where you'll find a scenic complex featuring three waterfalls. It's an excellent backdrop for relaxation or some fun with fellow adventurers. After the trek, you’ll visit El Tunco Beach, one of El Salvador's premier surfing destinations. Here, you can engage with instructors to learn about surfing on the area’s famous waves.
Lunch is recommended at a local restaurant right on the beach, adding a delicious local flavour to your day. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes for the trek and bring swimwear if you plan to take a dip in the waterfalls.
Reviews
Fantastic experience. The guide was both informative and friendly. The waterfalls were impressive. A great trip, suitable for both families and solo travelers.
The first day tour of El Salvador was fantastic. The sites were beautiful, and Osmaro, our guide, provided thorough explanations and helpful recommendations. He truly exceeded expectations and deserves a full five stars.
The excursion with Diego was excellent. The Tamanique Falls are stunning and worth the climb back, which I managed without being a great athlete. The water there was pleasantly warm too. Afterward, El Tunco offered a beautiful beach with warm water and nice waves.
David, our tour guide, was excellent. He arrived on time, was friendly, and shared a lot of knowledge about the area. He captured some great videos and photos of us jumping into the pools and also brought us to a wonderful restaurant for lunch. However, be warned that this hike is quite challenging. I've experienced waterfall hikes in several tropical locations, and this one was the most demanding by far. While descending is relatively straightforward, returning up the steep trails will really test your stamina. We were not adequately prepared for how taxing this hike would be based on the description provided. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots, as sandals are not appropriate.
The trek to the waterfalls is challenging, so it's important to wear suitable footwear. However, reaching the falls makes the effort worthwhile. The descent takes around 45 minutes, and the climb back is quite strenuous due to the steep mountains. Our guide Diego was very patient and friendly. El Tunco beach is stunning, with numerous options for dining, drinks, and shopping.
The hike was fantastic, offering stunning views, and our tour guide was attentive and provided great information throughout.
This is a candid review. Please note that the hike to the waterfall is quite challenging. It's suited for advanced trekkers, not beginners. The trail is steep and requires physical stamina. You'll descend for about 45 minutes before the tough part begins: the return climb took my group an hour and a half. Depending on the guide's route, there may be little shade and only a slight breeze. Make sure to wear comfortable footwear, bring plenty of water, a snack for energy, a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. I want to express my gratitude to our tour guide, Diego, and local guide, Freddy, for their patience and support during this demanding hike. If you're an experienced or moderately fit hiker, I recommend this trek. For others, proceed with caution; we witnessed individuals from other groups needing rescue, so take that warning seriously.
Diego, our tour guide, was excellent and very patient throughout the experience. The waterfall was enjoyable, and swimming in it made the trip truly rewarding. The hike to the waterfall was also quite short.
I highly suggest participating in this tour, particularly if you can have Diego as your guide. He excelled at sharing insightful details about the tour and offered valuable information about El Salvador as well.
The waterfall and views were stunning. I highly recommend requesting Diego and Freddy as your guides. If you're a beginner, the hike can be challenging, especially the climb back up. Diego was patient, kind, and supportive, which helped me complete the hike confidently. Don't forget to bring water, a handheld fan, sturdy sneakers, and sunscreen.
