This shore excursion from La Libertad is structured for cruise passengers wishing to explore El Salvador's diverse landscapes and cultural heritage. The day starts at Cerro Verde National Park, where you can take in the views of volcanoes Izalco and Santa Ana while enjoying the fresh air of the cloud forest. There's time allocated for light hiking and photography.
Next, you'll head to Lake Coatepeque, famed for its stunning volcanic lakeside scenery. Here, lunch is provided with beautiful views of the water. The journey wraps up with a visit to Joya de Cerén, the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the 'Pompeii of the Americas,' where you can see well-preserved ruins reflecting the life of an ancient Mayan community. This excursion ensures timely return to the port.
Reviews
The tour was abruptly canceled the night before due to insufficient sign-ups, leaving me with no prior notice or alternatives. I had to quickly rearrange my vacation plans. I do not recommend this.
This excursion was very engaging, featuring key stops like Cerro Verde and Joya de Ceren. Our guide Josuè provided outstanding and thorough insights. I highly recommend this tour for first-time visitors to El Salvador.
Alejandro, our guide, was excellent; he provided clear explanations and drove safely throughout the tour. We are grateful to Alejandro for making it such a wonderful experience.
This was an excellent tour, and Alejandro was a fantastic guide—very friendly and knowledgeable. He picked us up right at the dock in front of our cruise ship. I highly recommend this experience.
We had an excellent tour with Gaby. She is highly knowledgeable and passionate about showcasing her stunning country. Her communication, including her English proficiency, was exceptional, and she effectively managed our time to stay ahead of larger groups. Gaby was adaptable to our particular interests and happily addressed all of our questions. Thank you once more, Gaby.
Josué, our guide, was exceptional. His English is very good, complemented by a mild accent. He is well-versed in his country's history, covering ancient to modern times, and maintained engaging conversation throughout our trip. The driver was on site at Oceania Vista cruise ship well before our scheduled 8 am meeting, with a comfortable van accommodating just five couples in a 15-person capacity. The sites we visited were impressive, and both Josués ensured we returned to our ship well before the 4 pm departure, adjusting our stops as needed to maintain our schedule. Some tours offered by Oceania returned right before the ship left, so we appreciated the timely return. I would be delighted to take more tours with Josué in the future.
Josue, our guide, was fantastic and communicated in English very well, sharing valuable insights about El Salvador's history and present day. We ascended a volcano for stunning views and beautiful gardens, explored Joya de Ceren, known as the "Pompeii" of the Americas, where we saw an ancient village preserved in time. We took a lovely break by a picturesque lake in the caldera, where we relaxed instead of having lunch. The driver skillfully navigated the hills. While the ruins may lack grand structures, being a farming village, they are remarkably well-preserved. It's amazing that such wattle and daub construction has survived.
Josué, our guide, provided an exceptional tour. He has a strong command of English with a slight accent and a deep understanding of his country's history, covering various aspects. He engaged us throughout the journey. Our driver arrived at least 30 minutes early at the Oceania Vista cruise ship before our 8 am scheduled time, and the van, accommodating five couples comfortably, was just nearby. The sites were impressive, and both Josués ensured we returned to the ship well before its 4 pm departure, which was a relief for everyone. He coordinated our stops based on our preferences to make sure we stayed on schedule. Some tours offered by Oceania returned much later. I would be eager to take more tours with Josué.
Josué was an excellent tour guide, showcasing a deep knowledge of his country and the attractions we visited. He never rushed us, allowing us to fully enjoy everything. I highly recommend this trip for anyone spending a day looking to experience the highlights. The lunch provided was also very good.
Josue, our enthusiastic guide, made our trip truly enjoyable. His extensive knowledge about the sites we explored and the history of El Salvador greatly enriched our experience. We highly recommend this tour and suggest choosing Josue as your guide.
