Five hours by private car — explore Suchitoto's colonial charm and San Salvador's historical highlights.
This tour combines visits to the picturesque town of Suchitoto and the capital, San Salvador, all within five hours. Begin in Suchitoto, where you can walk cobbled streets lined with colonial architecture, explore art galleries, and see significant sites like the Santa Lucia Church and the Ruins’ Theater. For added enjoyment, lunch is at Casa 1800, which offers stunning views of Suchitlán Lake and a chance to enjoy the natural surroundings.
Moving on, the second part of the tour covers San Salvador. You will see the Historical Center, featuring the Metropolitan Cathedral, National Palace, and National Theater. Alfredo Diaz was an exceptional tour guide who had extensive knowledge of the areas and was incredibly helpful with additional questions and requests.
Alfredo Díaz was my guide, and I highly recommend him. The tour itself was enjoyable and engaging, but I especially appreciated his kindness and positive energy. He consistently addressed our questions and shared valuable insights that enhanced the experience. I'm really grateful for it. This tour is definitely worth it.
This was a fantastic tour that combined the highlights of two wonderful cities. Our guide, Alfredo Diaz, provided exceptional insights and knowledge about both Suchitoto and San Salvador.
I went on the Suchitoto and San Salvador tour with Alfredo Díaz, and he was an exceptional guide. His deep knowledge and passion for El Salvador made each story and detail engaging. He was extremely professional, friendly, and patient. I gained a lot of insights and had a wonderful experience — highly recommended!
The tour provided a solid introduction to northern El Salvador and the Centro Histórico of San Salvador. Our small group of five was driven by Omar and guided by Adonis. However, we encountered considerable construction in Suchitoto, making it challenging to fully appreciate the city. Upon reviewing the itinerary later, I noticed we missed Casa 1800, highlighted in Lonely Planet for its lake view. We could only glimpse a small portion of the lake from the city. I believe this oversight was due to time constraints; I would have preferred to enjoy the lake view instead of the 25 minutes allotted for free time in Suchitoto. After our return to San Salvador, we had free time for lunch before touring the centro histórico. Just as we were leaving the cathedral, I inquired about visiting the crypt of Oscar Romero. It dawned on me afterward that we also missed Iglesia El Rosario, which I ended up visiting on my own the next day. This church is truly beautiful and unique, so not including it in the tour was disappointing. I find it puzzling since we spent excess time at the library, which could have been better used for a short walk to the church. There was significant traffic throughout the day, given that it was a Friday, so I suggest bringing patience, water, and good walking shoes.
Our group of four from Belgium appreciates the exceptional, flexible planning by Salvadorean tours for our five full-day excursions, which included both private and group elements. Mayra and Eduardo from the office, along with our guide Miguel Cornejo and driver George, provided excellent service; they were all kind, accommodating, and professional. We thoroughly enjoyed our experiences. Thank you for making our time in El Salvador so memorable. Kathleen, Bert, Frans, and Nico. Nico Gijsen, Lanaken Belgium.
We enjoyed our trip to Suchitoto, a charming town perfect for family outings. We savored local cuisine, explored craft shops, visited local sites, and walked through the picturesque alleys while taking numerous photos. Alfredo, our guide, was attentive and friendly throughout our visit.
Our initial visit to San Salvador led us to seek a tour that included a destination beyond the city limits. Suchitoto turned out to be the standout attraction of our brief trip to El Salvador, featuring a charming colonial atmosphere, an attractive church, and a remarkable lunch at Casa 1800, which offered stunning lake views. While San Salvador's traffic can be overwhelming, we still managed to explore the key sites in the historic city center. Our guide and driver, Adonis Gamez, ensured a safe experience and shared valuable insights about his country and the locations we explored. I strongly recommend this tour.
We really enjoyed this tour; it offered excellent value. Our guide, Alfredo Diaz, was incredibly passionate, helpful, and friendly. I would definitely suggest both Alfredo and this tour to everyone.
With just one day to explore, I opted for the combination tour, especially since Suchitoto is a town my friends aren’t visiting, making it a nice addition. The admission fees were minimal, and the fantastic Library was free. I decided to skip the National Palace for now since it costs more and I wanted to take my time; I plan to return to pay the $5 admission myself. The churches we visited were all unique and beautiful in their own right. My tour guide Stanley, along with drivers Jorge and Jose (who is training), were incredibly welcoming. Jorge picked me up from my friend's place with a big smile and spoke great English, making him a brilliant part of the tour. He’s very knowledgeable and could easily be a tour guide himself. Jose was charming too, and while his English is still developing, I felt proud when he mentioned that Guinness is his favorite beer, even though I personally don’t like it. Both drivers prioritized safety throughout the ride. Stanley is passionate about his country and his role, eager to share interesting details about each site. He is professional in appearance and demeanor and made the solo tour experience enjoyable. He was always ready to take my photos, and we made an extra fun stop at The Plate Museum, which was absolutely worth the $3. If I had one wish, it would be to have had a bit more historical context about El Salvador during our drive to the first stop. I know many people do their homework ahead of time, but I was not familiar with the background. Also, a bit more music like Cumbia and other El Salvadorian tunes in the vehicle would have been nice. Overall, it was a fantastic day. Thank you for the great introduction to your beautiful country!
