Two-hour guided tour — kayak to sheltered snorkel spots in the La Jolla Ecological Reserve with professional guides. No prior snorkel experience necessary.
This two-hour tour includes kayaking through the La Jolla Ecological Reserve with trained professional guides leading the way. While the specific snorkel spots vary daily for safety, participants will enjoy the vibrant underwater life of the Reserve.
Once at the designated snorkeling area, the kayaks are secured together, allowing guests to comfortably hop in and explore the ocean. It's worth noting that prior snorkeling experience isn’t required, but participants must be confident swimmers in ocean waters. After snorkeling, the group returns by kayak to the launch point.

We had a fantastic time! Our guide, Sophia, was both kind and well-informed, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience. I would absolutely love to do this again.
This was a fantastic and leisurely tour. Sofia proved to be an exceptional guide, and Josh manages a superb operation. We encountered leopard sharks, a turtle, sea lions, and much more.
Trevor, our tour guide, was remarkable! Despite the cold and foggy weather, he made the experience enjoyable and fun. I highly recommend this tour for when the weather is warm and sunny.
Trevor was an excellent guide, and I truly enjoyed the trip. I would wholeheartedly recommend it. Thank you, Trevor.
We had a fantastic time! Lauren and Devin made it so enjoyable. The experience exceeded our expectations.
We were a group of around 16 people staying in the cave area. While the clarity was great, the experience itself was really cool.
My wife and I signed up for a kayak and snorkel tour, ensuring we requested a double kayak. However, at checkout, I mistakenly ended up paying for two double kayaks instead of for two participants. Typically, kayak tours charge per person rather than per kayak. When our guide Sawyer started calling names, he counted four for my party, and I realized my error. I quickly informed the employee at the counter that there were only two of us and mentioned I would confirm again at the end of the trip. As we embarked, I noticed none of the guides were wearing PFDs, which I felt was a concerning safety practice, given that the guides are supposed to ensure our safety in an emergency. During kayaking, we paused for snorkeling without being informed that we would have to swim an additional mile to the caves. We were surprised to hear we could remove our life jackets. Shortly after starting to swim, my wife experienced a leg cramp. Our snorkeling guide Tumas was already quite a distance away, so I swam back with my wife to the kayak before heading out alone to catch up with the group, which had drifted far ahead. Although I'm a strong swimmer, I was worried that the guide didn't try to keep everyone together and seemed unaware of my wife’s distress. Eventually, I did rejoin the group, but the snorkeling itself was disappointing, with little to see. Getting back onto a sit-on-top kayak in deeper waters is challenging, even for experienced kayakers. The guides provided minimal assistance with this. My wife, who has kayaked for 40 years, ended up with a painful rib bruise while trying to reboard the kayak. After the trip, I reminded the counter employee that I had mistakenly reserved two kayaks instead of one, resulting in about a $170 difference. He told me that a refund wasn’t possible because they could have rented the unused kayak to someone else. I was shocked by their unwillingness to accommodate a genuine mistake.
Ty and Andy were fantastic guides. They were very supportive and attentive to the needs of our group. I recommend bringing a waterproof phone strap to wear around your neck and avoid holding onto personal items in your hands.
Hannah and Laura provided an outstanding experience. Along with exploring the caves, we gained insights into the diverse marine life beneath us. We saw fish, sand sharks, seals, and plenty more. The service and staff were excellent.
I organized a kayak and snorkeling tour for my birthday in La Jolla and found the check-in process to be straightforward, with very friendly staff. My guide, Connor, led just one other guest and me through the waves, sharing interesting facts about the marine life and caves. We snorkeled near the caves, where I spotted a Garibaldi and had a close encounter with a sea lion. Connor was attentive, patient, and kind throughout the experience. If you visit, I hope you have the chance to have him as your guide.
