Our experience with BC Family Tours Laos was quite disappointing. We arranged for airport pickup, transportation to the railway station, railway tickets, and a food tour, but encountered multiple issues. First, we had to wait nearly 30 minutes after clearing immigration for our driver, who cited a steering wheel issue. Then, the food tour was not up to expectations. Our driver to the railway station was also 15 minutes late, although we managed to reach the train on time. The most frustrating part was that our train tickets were for backward-facing seats, despite having plenty of forward-facing options available. Overall, this experience fell short for us.
The positives first: the train was clean and comfortable, departed on schedule, and the ride was smooth with refreshments available. However, the trip from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng was largely tunnels and quite dull, while the segment from Vang Vieng to Vientiane offered pleasant views. Unfortunately, the train was also 30 minutes late arriving in Vientiane. Overall, while the comfort was appreciated, I likely wouldn't choose this experience again and would opt for a flight instead.
Digital ticketing was a breeze, and the terminal was clean and efficient. It's located a bit outside the city, but there are plenty of shuttle buses available. Just a heads-up: no aerosols or pocket knives allowed.
