Sandakan Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre
Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

The Sandakan Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre was established in 1964 to rehabilitate orphaned orangutans before releasing them into the wild. Set within a 43-square-kilometre rainforest reserve, the centre features raised boardwalks that give visitors an unobstructed view of these incredible primates as they swing through the trees during feeding times.
Arrive in the morning for the feeding sessions, which attract both orangutans and the curious macaques. Nearby, the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre offers further opportunities to encounter wildlife conservation efforts. Expect high humidity, so dress appropriately for the tropical climate.
