Five hours by minibus — explore Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle with a guided tour and electric train ride.
This five-hour tour takes you from Koper to two of Slovenia's most significant attractions. The adventure begins with a visit to Postojna Cave, where you’ll travel through fascinating underground systems aboard a small electric train before walking through more enchanting passages. This unique cave system is renowned across Europe.
Just a short drive away lies Predjama Castle, a dramatic structure built into a cliffside that dates back to the medieval era. Here, you'll have ample opportunities to capture stunning photographs. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress in layers for the cave's varying temperatures.

Stepping onto the bus, you immediately feel a sense of welcome. Andi is an exceptional guide, sharing insights about Slovenia's culture and making an effort to connect with guests during the journey to the caves and castle. The sites themselves are truly one-of-a-kind; the cliffside castle boasts a fascinating history, while the expansive caves feature a train ride reminiscent of Hogwarts. The entire experience is well worth the cost, and I highly recommend it. Also, the caves are home to 100-year-old "baby dragons."
The excursion was outstanding. Our guide, Nero, was exceptional. The timing was just right and the transfers were well-organized. The cave is stunning and the castle is quite lovely.
The caves were extraordinary. Riding the train was a thrilling experience, fast but not like a roller coaster. The tour involved walking up and down wet paved paths, which felt safe with railings available. You can go at your own pace. It might be quicker to start this tour from Trieste rather than Koper. I wished we had more time to explore Predjama Castle, as it's unique compared to typical castles. Be sure to allocate some time to check out Koper's old town.
This tour was outstanding. We organized it ourselves from our cruise, and it turned out to be just right. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable as we traveled from the port to the caves and the castle. The caves are truly spectacular.
Rasa, my tour guide, was very friendly and shared plenty of historical insights about Koper. The experience was both enjoyable and educational. The caves were incredible, but be prepared for the cooler temperature—it's about 10 degrees colder than outside, so a jacket is recommended.
Fantastic experience! It completely surpassed what we had anticipated. Our guide Rastka provided us with in-depth knowledge about the caves and the area’s history. The caves were astonishing! The train transported us to the main section, allowing us to explore at our leisure. It was stunning—almost beyond words. I highly recommend it!
The tour was excellently organized, with a comfortable bus journey to the cave and castle. Our guide was both helpful and knowledgeable.
This activity may not be suitable for those with mobility challenges. The description did not mention the uphill and downhill walking involved in the cave. Potential participants should be informed, as it seemed more challenging than expected.
I had a wonderful experience and highly recommend this for anyone traveling to the area. The bus was comfortable, and the tour guide provided a wealth of knowledge.
Dress in layers as it can be around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm really glad we took the time during our cruise port stop. Our guide coordinated a large bus, marked by a faded light orange flag near a cyclone fence. The bus ride was pleasant, with interesting facts about Slovenia shared along the way. The caves are well-operated; if you have mobility issues, you can stay on the open-air train to enter and exit. Those in wheelchairs should confirm accessibility before boarding the train. There are handrails and no steps in the cave system, with smooth concrete paths and good lighting as highlighted by their audio guide available in multiple languages. The tour kicks off with a roughly 15-minute ride on the open-air train—be mindful of your head if you're tall. After that, there's about a 45-minute walk with the audio guide, with generally high ceilings and plenty of light, although it can feel humid at times. The sights are stunning and definitely worth the visit. Handrails are provided throughout, and then it’s back on the train for another 15-minute ride out. The bus and guide were prompt, and restrooms are clearly marked. These were the best caves I’ve ever explored, and I highly recommend them. We also visited Lake Bled, but if you must choose one experience, prioritize the caves.
