Valentina was an amiable and informed guide. This excursion from Koper provided a delightful introduction to different areas of Slovenia. Bled is almost 2 hours away from Koper, while Ljubljana takes over 1 hour, allowing us around 1 hour at the lake and 1.5 hours in the city.
Our visit to Lake Bled and Ljubljana was thoroughly enjoyable. Our guide, Mauritzio, managed to keep the tour on schedule even when the bus broke down near a rest area on the way to Lake Bled. Despite a 45-minute delay, we still had ample time to explore all the sights included in the tour.
I had arranged this tour well in advance of our cruise, but just two days before our arrival in Koper, the tour operator canceled it, blaming end-of-summer traffic. I had to quickly find a similar tour offered by the cruise line. This new option involved larger buses visiting the same sites without the traffic delays mentioned by the original operator. Be cautious of potential cancellations when considering this company for your tour.
We participated in the Lake Bled and Ljubljana tour departing from Trieste. Despite the rainy weather, it turned out to be an enjoyable day. Our guide and driver, Ernest, was fantastic. The company managed to adjust our pickup time seamlessly after a change in our cruise port, and Ernest was right on time. Our first destination was Lake Bled, where Ernest shared insights about Slovenia’s history and culture during the drive, making it a pleasant experience while enjoying the scenery. He allowed us 1.5 hours to explore Lake Bled and pointed out points of interest and available facilities. Although it was raining, we appreciated the lakeside walk, and if the weather had been nicer, we might have hiked up to the castle. We also tried the famous Slovenian cream cake, which was delightful—perfect for dessert lovers and a great match with coffee. Next, we headed to Ljubljana, where we had just over 2.5 hours to explore. Ernest provided a quick introduction to the city's main attractions and highlighted interesting landmarks. He also suggested food options and facilities. We enjoyed visiting the castle with its views over the city; I took the funicular up and walked down. We had ample time to stroll around and enjoy a nice lunch too. Overall, it was a fantastic day trip. Ernest greatly enhanced the experience with his extensive knowledge of Slovenia and the destinations. He was very friendly and approachable.
Both Bled and Ljubljana offer the most stunning views. We wished for more time, but were thankful to experience both places. If you're arriving via cruise, be prepared for quite a bit of travel on the road. I would definitely return to both locations.
