Four hours, private transport — explore Postojna Cave's formations, ride the underground train, and enjoy a photo stop at Predjama Castle, all with an English-speaking driver.
This half-day tour offers a private experience of Postojna Cave, Europe’s largest cave. After a 45-minute drive from Koper, participants will board the underground train to explore impressive cave formations and notable features like the baby dragons. A brief coffee stop is included.
The tour continues to Predjama Castle, dramatically perched on a 123-metre cliff, renowned for its picturesque setting. There will be time for photos before the return journey, which takes approximately 50 minutes back to Koper. An English-speaking driver will share insights about Slovenia's history, culture, and natural environment throughout the tour.
Reviews
Visiting the Postojna Cave is truly worthwhile. Our guide, Maurizio, was not only friendly and humorous but also knowledgeable, sharing fascinating stories about Trieste and Slovenia that greatly enhanced our experience. The lunch spot he suggested was excellent as well, making this excursion both enjoyable and memorable.
The local driver was friendly and the scenery was beautiful, making for an enjoyable trip to the caves and castle. However, this experience felt more like hiring a driver than a private tour guide. We anticipated a personalized tour, but ended up with a large group train ride to the caves, which lasted about 15 minutes, followed by a 45-minute walk where we could hardly hear or understand the guide. Our request for audio guides was denied, making it hard to appreciate what we were looking at. After that, we took another 15-minute train ride back. The drive to the castle was quick, and while it was interesting, overall, we felt we paid $500 for mere transportation since the entry tickets were under $40 each. It did not represent good value for money.
For those arriving in Trieste on a cruise, this trip is a fantastic option. We were quickly taken from the ship to the stunning country of Slovenia. Our bags were securely stored while we explored, and dropping off at the train station was seamless. Our guide, Andrej, provided us with valuable insights about Trieste, Slovenia, and the various locations we visited.
