Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Gardens

Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Gardens is a sprawling 273-acre estate established in 1787, renowned for its diverse collection of over 12,000 plant species. The gardens feature the iconic Great Banyan Tree, which covers over 4,800 square metres and boasts aerial roots that have turned into new trunks, creating a unique landscape. Plan for at least two hours to stroll through the various themed sections, including the palm avenue and the fragrant flower beds. Early mornings are ideal for visiting, offering cooler temperatures and fewer crowds. The gardens are located near Haora Bridge, providing scenic views of the Hooghly River.
