Kayaking through the mangrove tunnels at John Pennekamp Park was enjoyable and straightforward, guided by a friendly and knowledgeable instructor. While some prior experience is helpful, as opposed to what the description suggests, it’s still manageable for beginners. Remember to bring extra water and sunscreen. We checked in at Florida Outfitters before heading to the park and launch area. Although our tour started late and the guide mentioned we’d make up the time, we finished right on schedule, which was a letdown. Nonetheless, my family, including a teenager, had a good time. With limited kayaking experience, having a guide to assist us in navigating the mangroves was ideal.
Bob was excellent, demonstrating deep local knowledge while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere. Make sure to bring a mask and snorkel to enjoy swimming or floating in the tunnel area, where you can see fish and vibrant sponges.
I had a good time on this kayak tour. Our guides, Steven and Memo, were laid-back and shared interesting insights about the ecosystem. Although the tour was supposed to last 3 hours, we started late and finished early, which is why I gave it four stars.
Our guide, Stephen, offered excellent insights into the mangroves and wildlife, making the experience very informative and enjoyable. The only downside was being advised against bringing phones or cameras by the staff, which we regretted as we would have loved to take our own pictures during the calm waters. While we initially thought about renting kayaks ourselves, we were pleased we chose the tour—navigating the paths would have been challenging, and we noticed other solo kayakers needing Stephen’s assistance. Overall, it was a fantastic trip!
We thoroughly enjoyed our kayak tour. Mark, our guide, was excellent. He took the time to learn about us beforehand and customized the information based on our experiences. The pace was leisurely, with options provided throughout, and he was always available to address our questions.

Without his guidance, we would have struggled to navigate the mangrove maze. We spotted barracudas, Cassiopeia jellyfish, snappers, and various birds.
