Dean employs only top-notch guides, and Captain Chris truly stands out. I booked a half-day trip during a slow season, yet Chris ensured everyone caught a fish, even if it took until 10:30 pm. King of the River surpasses all other fishing outfits on the Kenai River. Whether you're experienced or a novice, Chris will make sure you leave the boat confident and with fish in hand. I had such a great time that I decided to extend my week and book another session with Chris, filling my freezer along the way thanks to King of the River. Don't waste your time fishing with anyone else.
As first-time salmon anglers, we had an incredible experience. Our guide Jason was excellent, helping us with the setup and teaching us the fishing techniques. We were lucky enough to reach our limit in under two hours, making it the highlight of our fishing trip in Alaska.

Dean, the owner, employs top-notch staff to operate his boats. We’ve chartered with them nearly a dozen times, including family trips. Chris, Jason, and several other captains, along with Dean and the crew, excel in customer service, ensuring everyone fishes safely and correctly. I wouldn't choose anyone else for our Kenai River/Kasiloff River charters. They truly offer the best service possible, and we’ve limited out on every trip.
The fishing experience was incredible. Guides Jason and Chris assisted us in catching as many fish as we desired. They went the extra mile to ensure we could take our fish home frozen and properly packaged for our flight the following day.

Our guide Bobby from King of the River was outstanding. With just two of us and little fishing experience, we were able to catch our limit of sockeye and silver salmon, thanks to his expertise. He was patient and an excellent coach, handling everything while we just needed to show up with our fishing licenses. If I return to fish in the Kenai, I will definitely book with King of the River again.
My half-day fishing adventure on the Kenai River with Captain Dean from King of the River was unforgettable. In addition to fishing, the trip provided breathtaking views of eagles, seals, and stunning landscapes that enhanced our day. Dean's enthusiasm and friendly demeanor truly made the outing worthwhile. I highly recommend King of the River. This being my first fishing trip in Alaska, I came away with fantastic memories and valuable skills thanks to Dean and his crew. I would definitely go with them again.
Chris might be close to being the "King of the River," but I saw his son catch a few more fish from the boat next to ours, so he might be the real champion. We met Chris at the dock, and he was already there, fully prepared. I didn't realize how busy the river would be, but we eventually found a good spot. Chris communicated with other boats and skillfully maneuvered to position us well. The weather was fantastic, and we caught some fish, making for a wonderful afternoon. I'm planning to return next year, and maybe his son will teach him a few tricks. While I believe the morning tour offers better chances to limit your catch, we opted for the afternoon tour for fun and had a great time.
