Reviews
This experience was truly remarkable, offering an in-depth look into the history and workings of hard rock gold mining. Entering the tunnel allowed us to see how the rock is extracted, followed by a demonstration of the crushing and stamping methods. We even had a chance to try gold panning and found three flakes. It was thrilling. Thank you, AJ Mine!
The tour of the mine was outstanding! The guide and staff were fantastic. I highly recommend it. I never thought I would get the chance to explore an underground gold mine.
This excursion was fantastic, and I would strongly suggest going on this tour.
This was a very nice experience. The information provided was educational and insightful about old mining practices. I appreciated that the presenters were actual miners. I really enjoyed it, especially the heated panning water.
This was an informative and enjoyable tour. We came to learn about gold mining, and it certainly met our expectations. The ship added a unique touch, and gold panning was a fun activity.
An outstanding learning experience about the history of Juneau and gold mining. It’s not physically demanding, making it enjoyable for people of all ages.
The mining town's lower section was enjoyable, but it could benefit from more signage and interactive elements. There was a lot of walking up a slippery slope, though it's accessible for those in wheelchairs. They offer free earplugs and hard hats, and the gift shop was pleasant, but it mainly has jewelry, fridge magnets, and clothing, lacking patches. Staff were very nice.
We had an informative tour led by a former miner, who shared valuable insights. The operation appears to be run by well-meaning family members and friendly volunteers. I even discovered some gold while panning, which made the experience even more memorable.
This tour was both fascinating and educational, led by guides with over 30 years of mining experience. While I was a bit let down by the panning—finding just one tiny flake—the gift shop offered some great souvenirs at reasonable prices.
This tour offers a unique and engaging experience, highlighting the significant role mining played in Juneau's history. The demonstration of century-old equipment was particularly fascinating. Inside the mine, which extends about 360 feet, it was somewhat dark, damp, and cool. Our guide, an experienced mining veteran, was very knowledgeable. After exploring the mine, we received a more detailed history lesson on mining operations and had the chance to see a stamping machine in action. Gold panning was also available for those interested. I visited the well-stocked gift shop, where the clerk was friendly. Overall, this tour was enjoyable and a good value for the price.
