• The Ghanta Ghar, or clock tower, located in the heart of Jodhpur, was constructed between 1910 and 1912 by Maharaja Sardar Singh. It stands as a significant symbol of Old Jodhpur, offering wonderful panoramic views from the top. The bustling area around the tower is the largest marketplace in Jodhpur, filled with locals offering a variety of goods and services. Visitors to the market and clock tower will have the chance to immerse themselves in the local culture. Surrounding the clock tower are various street markets, notably the Sardar Market, named after the former king. At night, the illuminated clock tower enhances the lively atmosphere of the market. • Toorji’s Step Well, built in the 1740s by the queen of Maharaja Abhaya Singh, was submerged for almost a century. Recent restoration efforts have revealed over two hundred feet of intricately carved rose-red sandstone, showcasing detailed depictions of dancing elephants and historical water-spouts, as well as niches for long-forgotten deities. A visit to this remarkable monument is essential during a stay in Jodhpur. • A walk will lead to the narrow streets of the old city to view the blue houses and explore the traditional market. • Constructed in 1847 by Maharaja Vijay Singhji in memory of his son Sher Singh, who passed away young, this temple is located in Jaipur's interior yet remains accessible. Made from Chittor sandstone and Makrana marble, it belongs to the Rama Nandi sect of Hindus. The impressive architecture is noteworthy, and a Shiva temple can also be found two levels below ground, visible from above, with a pathway leading to it. • Ranisar and Padamsar lakes, built over five centuries ago, are two adjacent lakes situated behind Mehrangarh Fort near Fateh Pol. Created to conserve scarce water, these scenic lakes contrast beautifully with the imposing fort, providing a stunning view. The waters have remained pristine for centuries, contributing a peaceful ambiance and reflecting the grandeur of the fort on their surface. • The best location for viewing the city is during sunrise and sunset, particularly to see the blue houses.
