One and a half hours covering the Planetarium Dome Theatre and outdoor telescope viewing, with insights on local constellations and meteorite handling.
This 1.5-hour tour starts in the Planetarium Dome Theatre, where you'll explore local First Nations constellations, the Milky Way, and the universe's edge. Following the indoor presentation, venture outside for a guided tour of the Rockies' largest telescopes. If conditions are clear, you'll get a chance to look through the telescopes and learn about the science behind the Northern Lights. You can also handle meteorites, a Moon rock, and a Mars rock.
The tour is suitable for ages 4 and up, while children under 4 are not allowed in the Planetarium. Dress according to the weather since part of the experience is outdoors. In case of cloudy skies, a two-year 'Rain Check' is offered, allowing you to return at no extra cost.

It was a fantastic experience with exceptionally knowledgeable guides who addressed all our inquiries. Though it was slightly cloudy, we could still view the moon and Jupiter. Truly captivating.
I really don't grasp the positive feedback. The setup is just a tent in a hotel resort. For over $200, your family gets a typical 15-minute movie in a tent with fancy lawn chairs. The experience goes on despite cloudy weather, despite being told the outlook is good, leaving you unable to see anything. The telescope provided is not impressive. You're also given a brief 5-10 minute talk in another tent about how the northern lights occur and some details about meteorites. Overall, this felt like a major letdown and isn't worth the cost. It would be more honest to cancel if the skies are cloudy. I suggest checking online for information on visibility and the likelihood of seeing the northern lights and then heading to Pyramid Lake yourself.
This was our second visit, and even with some cloud cover, they made every effort to ensure we had a fantastic viewing experience. It was a wonderful time, and everyone should definitely check it out; it's truly amazing.
This tour turned out to be an unexpectedly delightful experience. The planetarium only operates in the evening, and since Jasper is a Dark Sky area, it was quite dark. Conveniently, it was just a short walk from our Cabin by Jasper Park Lodge. It's best to have a phone flashlight handy for the dim and, in our case, icy pathways. We began in a dome-like tent that accommodates around 34 people. The atmosphere felt like a unique outdoor adventure, but instead of a campfire, we had star projections and comfy camp-style seating. The 40-minute program highlighted celestial events and the Jasper Dark Sky Preserve, delivered by a knowledgeable narrator. Afterwards, we explored several stations discussing meteorites, enjoyed instant replays from telescopes, and had the opportunity to look through various telescopes at the stars. As we are in our 70s, we became quite tired and a little chilly (we're from Arizona), leading us to leave before the program concluded. The staff were not only intelligent but also very kind, assisting us back to our cabin. On our way, we inquired about the young experts in this small town; the manager informed us that most are astrophysicists or passionate space enthusiasts. Overall, it was very impressive and truly enjoyable. Definitely worth attending.
The entire experience was fantastic. The planetarium offered a personal and educational atmosphere. Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather. We were fortunate to have a nearly clear night, allowing us to see a lot, including Betelgeuse, Saturn, the Pleiades, and more. This setup could definitely benefit from a permanent building. The guides were highly knowledgeable and communicated effectively, ensuring everyone grasped the information. It was absolutely worth it. A remarkable experience.
The planetarium presentation felt somewhat outdated, and the images appeared somewhat faded. Unfortunately, with the overcast sky and extreme cold, we weren't able to enjoy the stargazing portion. This was not their fault, of course.
During our visit to the Fairmont Jasper from March 24th to 26th, 2026, my husband and I, along with two other couples, participated in the 9:45 pm planetarium and telescope experience. It was a major letdown and felt misleading. We were surprised to find a makeshift igloo-style tent with lawn chairs and a space heater, especially given the freezing temperatures. The video presentation lasted 20 minutes and was drowned out by loud music, making it hard to hear the narrator. There was no refund offered for the "unused telescope experience" due to weather conditions, though we were told we could return within two years to use it. After the video, we were asked to gather around a drum barrel fire for the next steps, but it was very windy and extremely cold. We were then taken to another outdoor tent with a TV screen and no heat at all. We only lasted three minutes before retreating to the main building. This was a complete disaster. After saving for years to enjoy a good vacation, we felt cheated out of around $150.00 per couple.
Tyler and his team are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about their work. It felt like we were spending the evening with friends who had a deep understanding of the night sky. They beautifully conveyed its wonders in an accessible way for those without scientific backgrounds. This experience is a definite highlight in Jasper.
The planetarium show offered impressive visuals and engaging live commentary, which I found enjoyable. However, the telescope experience was somewhat slow, as each person views through the lens individually. The staff were dedicated and provided plenty of information.
It was not the best night, but the staff put in a lot of effort. We participated in the combo planetarium and telescope tour. The planetarium equipment required a reboot, and the guide's microphone malfunctioned. It was partly cloudy outside, and the crew didn't switch off the bright lights in one tent until we requested it, which would have helped us view the sky better. On the positive side, the team possesses more knowledge than what they present unless prompted. They have a great telescope with a video camera and two large monitors for guests to see. I can imagine that on a clear night after dark, there would be stunning visuals for attendees.
