Two-hour guided tour by all-terrain vehicle — walk on Athabasca Glacier with small groups for an intimate adventure.
A two-hour guided tour takes you across the Athabasca Glacier in a specialized all-terrain vehicle, ideal for those interested in exploring the unique glacial landscape. Groups are kept small, allowing for personalized attention while learning about the glacier’s history, including its formation and its significance in NASA research.
During the tour, you will stop at exclusive locations to disembark and walk on the glacier itself. This experience prioritizes environmental preservation, using low-emission vehicles built for rugged terrain. Dress warmly and be ready for a memorable exploration of one of Canada’s remarkable natural features.

I had a wonderful experience with Tori and Gracie. The ice odyssey was definitely worth it.
It was a wonderful experience. The smaller group allowed us to visit a less crowded area that was exclusive to us. Tommy was excellent. I highly recommend this tour.
Experiencing the glacier away from the crowds was truly remarkable. Tommy, our guide, provided great information and had a friendly, humorous approach that made everyone feel at ease. I strongly recommend this trip.
Tony, our guide, and Cass, our driver, were fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our time. The experience was truly one of a kind. Being in a small group of nine allowed us to access a different part of the glacier that larger buses couldn't reach, providing a more personalized experience.
This experience was included in a Vacations by Rail Tour, and we really enjoyed it. The weather was pleasantly warm, and there was so much to explore and discover at the visitor's center.
This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Traveling in the Sherp, learning about the glacier, walking on it, and drinking its water (which we chose not to) was truly remarkable. I recommend this over the ice explorer. I disagree with a review suggesting you can see the glacier from the highway and should skip this. Our guide Chris, from London, was incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and energetic. He took us on some fun 360-degree spins with the SHERP and equipped everyone with spikes for walking on ice, which are essential, unlike what the explorer trip offers. Chris also demonstrated various mountain climbing gear and allowed us to try them out, which was fascinating. Additionally, there were only six of us in the SHERP compared to the 20 or 30 in the explorer vehicle. We arrived before 10 am for our 11 am booking, and the parking lot was quite empty; however, by the time we returned from the glacier around 1 pm, it was completely full.
This trip is essential for anyone looking to experience the Athabasca Glacier. Our guides, Conner and Tommy, shared a lot of insights about the glaciers, along with their personal stories from the icefield. The hot tea was a nice touch and truly appreciated.
Riding in a uniquely designed vehicle on the Icefield was a bucket list experience. It was enjoyable to sit next to the driver, and I picked up some interesting information along the way.
Riley and Carla were fantastic guides—extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. They made our experience unforgettable. We loved learning about the site's history and trying out the ice climbing gear. Walking on a glacier is an amazing experience.
Gracie and Tori provided exceptional guidance. They were both knowledgeable and friendly, making our time on the glacier incredibly enjoyable. We truly had a fantastic experience!
