Seeing the melting glacier was a fantastic experience. The 3+ km uphill trek was challenging, but it was well worth it. We're grateful to have crossed this off our bucket list.
The views of the glacier were spectacular, and the guide provided excellent insights about the area. It was concerning to learn that the glacier has already decreased in height by 1 meter since late May, just six weeks ago, especially with a heat wave now beginning. It's unfortunate to witness the magnificent glacier melting.
This experience was one of the standout moments of our visit to Banff and Jasper, and I highly recommend it. Our guide, Troy, made it enjoyable while sharing his extensive knowledge of glaciers. There is so much more to discover about them beyond just taking pictures and “walking on ice.” If you have the option, choose the full-day tour instead of the half-day. It includes stops along the way to explore various features of the glacier, such as crevices, pools, and streams, all of which Troy explained thoroughly. Having lunch at the summit was a great opportunity to learn more and connect with others in the group. They maintain a small group size, with a maximum of 12, which allowed Troy to engage with each participant. Overall, it was an excellent tour.
What a fantastic experience. We made a last-minute booking due to the extreme heat in Banff and initially wanted the 3-hour tour, but it was fully booked, so we opted for the 6-hour one, which turned out to be a great decision. If you're moderately fit, you should manage just fine. Although it's a lengthy trek, it ranks among the most incredible experiences I've had. Our guide Larry was excellent and kept the pace suitable for our small group, which consisted of three couples and one solo traveler, all at a similar fitness level. I enjoyed learning about the glacier, and the picnic on the ice was unforgettable. If you're able to do the 6-hour tour, I highly recommend it. I wouldn't suggest it for children or those with limited mobility, but for those wanting a rich experience, the best views are further back on the glacier. It's definitely worth the cost, as you can't safely explore that far without a guide.
The scenery, including glacier rivers and the stunning blue ice, was breathtaking. Reaching the glacier wall at the hike’s conclusion was a highlight. I prefer to keep the rest of the experience to myself.
We chose a full-day hike to experience the glacier to the fullest. Our guide, Heather, was excellent, ensuring we had ample time at the ice falls. Although the trek was challenging, she made it enjoyable and safe throughout, sharing fascinating information about the Alabasca Glacier. We're thrilled we participated and would highly recommend it to those who can handle 5-6 miles over approximately 5 hours.
This was a fascinating experience. Our guide was knowledgeable, reliable, and approachable. I really enjoyed this trip.
The hike is not particularly challenging, being quite moderate as you ascend the Glacier. However, be aware there are no restrooms at the summit, though there are several discreet spots for a bathroom break.
An incredible experience! Kental's extensive understanding of glaciers and skilled navigation led us to breathtaking formations and beautiful rivers.
You should be in decent shape, as the total walk is around 6 miles, primarily on the glacier. However, it’s an absolutely incredible experience and a fantastic way to understand and value these remarkable formations.
