What's the itinerary?+
• Jaisalmer Fort serves as a vibrant urban area with approximately 3,000 residents. Its narrow winding streets are home to various houses, temples, handicraft shops, guesthouses, and restaurants. Entry to the fort is from the east near Gopa Chowk, where visitors navigate through four substantial gates along a winding pathway leading to the upper section. The final gate opens into Dashera Chowk, the central square of the fort. • This elegant haveli is situated in the town's core amidst narrow lanes. It is a privately owned 19th-century structure renowned for its elaborate exterior carvings and distinctive architecture. • The most notable haveli overlooking the traditionally decorated pond is Patwa-ki-Haveli, known for its intricate stonework resembling honey-colored lace. Constructed between 1800 and 1860 by five Jain brothers who prospered in brocade and jewelry, it features five sections. While it is visually striking from the outside, the privately owned Kothari’s Patwa-ki-Haveli Museum in the first section vividly portrays 19th-century life and is the only one that requires an entry fee. The remaining sections consist of two largely empty government-owned museums and two private areas with shops. • A significant landmark in this historic city is Mandir Palace, which served as the residence of Jaisalmer rulers for over 200 years. This architectural marvel is distinguished by its intricately carved balconies, canopies, and delicate screens that showcase the finest local craftsmanship. A prominent feature of Mandir Palace is its tower, ‘Badal Vilas’, recognized as the tallest structure beneath the hilltop city fort. • Gadi Sagar Lake, located south of Jaisalmer, is a rain-fed lake surrounded by serene and pleasant scenery. This picturesque lake is encircled by numerous temples and sacred shrines, with crystal clear water. Activities such as boating are available, and it is a crucial water source for the entire city. The area attracts numerous migratory birds, and a notable Krishna temple is situated atop the yellow sandstone gate.
