What's the itinerary?+
• Jaisalmer Fort is an active urban area, home to around 3,000 residents, featuring narrow winding streets filled with houses, temples, many handicraft shops, guesthouses, and restaurants. Entry to the fort is from the east near Gopa Chowk, where visitors navigate through four grand gates on a winding path to the upper area. The last gate leads to Dashera Chowk, the fort's central square. • The Jain Temples, among the oldest in Jaisalmer, are situated within the Jaisalmer Fort complex and serve as significant religious sites. There are seven Jain temples constructed between the 12th and 15th centuries AD, each dedicated to various Jain tirthankars. The largest and most notable is the Parsvanath Temple, while others include the Chandraprabhu Temple, Rishabdev Temple, Shitalnath Temple, Kunthanath Temple, and Shantinath Temple. • A 19th-century haveli, known for its intricate exterior carvings and distinctive architecture, is located in the town's narrow lanes. • The standout residence, Patwa-ki-Haveli, dominates a narrow lane, famous for its detailed stonework resembling honey-colored lace. Comprising five sections built between 1800 and 1860 by five Jain brothers who prospered in brocade and jewelry, the exterior is impressive, but the first section, the privately owned Kothari’s Patwa-ki-Haveli Museum, authentically presents 19th-century life and is the only section requiring an entry fee. The other sections include two largely empty government-run 'museums' and two private areas with shops. • Gadi Sagar Lake is located south of Jaisalmer, a rain-fed lake surrounded by a serene environment. This picturesque lake is flanked by numerous temples and shrines, with crystal-clear water. Visitors can engage in water sports such as boating, and the lake serves as the city’s water supply. Migratory birds are often spotted around the area, and a notable Krishna temple is built atop a yellow sandstone gate. • The cenotaphs in this area are among Jaisalmer's most remarkable structures and a key tourist destination. Vyas Chhatri, dedicated to Sage Vyas—author of the Mahabharata—features exquisite memorials and serves as a cremation site for Brahmins. The yellow sandstone cenotaphs are elevated on platforms and topped with intricately designed chhatris set on finely carved pillars, exemplifying Rajasthani architecture. Positioned on a hill, visitors can also see Jaisalmer's Golden Fort in the distance, along with stunning sunset views.
