Two-hour guided walk through the countryside — observe local livelihoods, including artisan coconut and clay product making.
A two-hour guided tour through the Ixtapa countryside offers a close look at local lifestyles and traditional crafts. You'll see how residents utilize coconut for various products and learn about the process of making bricks and roofing tiles from clay.
The tour highlights the resourcefulness of the community, including the use of coconut husks as fuel for wood-fired ovens and clay stoves. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for walking on uneven terrain, as the tour involves some outdoor exploration.

Carlos, the owner and sole guide, speaks excellent English. This tour is truly one of the best experiences. I highly recommend him for a fun and informative day.
Carlos was fantastic and exceeded everything mentioned in the tour details. We paused to buy freshly ground coffee, and he guided us through Mercado Municipal, directing us exactly where to find what we needed. His insights about the area were impressive. We had a wonderful day with Carlos.
I had a delightful morning. Carlos proved to be an outstanding guide as we explored a coconut plantation, a tile-making shop, and a restaurant where women prepared tortillas by hand over an open fire. He has extensive knowledge about local fruit trees, native woods, and birds. With his excellent English, we engaged in discussions on various subjects. It was a great opportunity to experience traditional crafts and gain insights into life beyond Zihuatanejo. I highly recommend this experience.
The guide was punctual, and we were looking forward to a unique experience. The coconut farm visit was merely average, although the tile-making demo was interesting. We enjoyed a very good lunch before returning to the hotel. However, the guide didn't provide much information unless prompted with questions, and overall, we thought this tour was overpriced.
The trip was enjoyable, although many of the activities were familiar to me from previous experiences. I particularly appreciated the insights into native plants.
Our tour with Carlos was truly one of the best experiences we've had, as we explored various sites in local towns on our way to the coconut plantations and learned about the production of clay roof tiles. The lunch at a beachside restaurant was delightful, where we enjoyed fresh food while observing pelicans catching fish. We had an insightful tour of the coconut plantation, where we discovered the process of growing new coconuts from seeds and the harvesting techniques. Additionally, we enjoyed a wonderful gathering with the management family, where we were treated to delicious frozen coconut milk popsicles. This interaction provided a fantastic chance to forge new friendships. At the kiln, Francisco guided us through the roof tile production process, and we even had the opportunity to create a tile ourselves. Carlos is an exceptional tour guide, and we wholeheartedly recommend his services to anyone visiting Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo, whether for the first time or not.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Carlos. His knowledge was impressive, and he expertly addressed all of our inquiries. He exceeded our expectations by taking us to Mercado Municipal and assisting us in locating what we needed. If we get the opportunity for another tour, we would absolutely choose Carlos again. Thank you, Carlos!
This private tour was an excellent way to explore the regions around Zihuatanejo. Carlos, our guide, was very knowledgeable and communicated well in English. We toured a brick and tile-making company where we even made a tile ourselves. The coconut plantation was stunning, and the coconut treats were delightful. We also enjoyed a tasty lunch at a seaside restaurant in Barre de Possi. Overall, it was a fantastic day, and I loved connecting with a local. I highly recommend this experience for anyone wanting to learn more about the area.
I arranged a few tours through Westjet Vacations at the Emporio Hotel with Isidro Reyes, the Westjet representative. One of the adventures, Eco Combo, Country Side Tour, was led by my guide Julio. Isidro recommended this tour as the best in Ixtapa. The brochure mentioned a "venture through the mangroves of a bird sanctuary," which I was eager to experience. Julio picked me up for this small group tour with only four participants, which was nice. However, I was disappointed to learn upon entering the van that there would be no boat ride to the bird sanctuary, even though it was part of the package. There was no explanation given. Julio showcased the coastline, the coconut plantation, and a family business that crafts terra cotta tiles, ending with lunch in Barra de Potosi. This lunch spot is where the bird sanctuary is located. When I inquired again about the boat ride, Julio seemed eager to return, but mentioned he could check on it if we wanted to go. Another participant and I expressed interest, but we were told it would cost 700 pesos. I was confused as I had already paid for this in advance, leaving me quite disappointed. When I spoke to Isidro the following day about not getting the boat ride, he appeared unfazed and did not offer any form of compensation. Overall, the tour itself was enjoyable, but make sure to clarify all aspects of the experience beforehand.
Carlos, our guide, was exceptional and spoke excellent English. We enjoyed a wonderful tour that included a Coconut farm, a Museum, and roof tile making, along with a 5-star lunch at the beach. Carlos shared insights into the history of Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa, as well as local farming. He answered our numerous questions about life in Mexico with knowledge and clarity. This tour was thoroughly enjoyable, and we highly recommend it for those wanting to explore less-traveled parts of the area.
