Three and a half hours by boat to Capers Island — explore tidal creeks, encounter dolphins, and experience the untouched landscape.
This 3.5-hour boat trip transports you to Capers Island, an undeveloped barrier island off the coast of Isle of Palms. As you cruise through winding tidal creeks, look out for bottlenose dolphins and various bird species including osprey and bald eagles. On board, marine experts will demonstrate the use of seine nets and habitat traps to reveal the hidden marine life just beneath the surface.
Once you arrive, you'll have 90 minutes to explore Bone-yard Beach, known for its ancient oak stumps, alongside tranquil freshwater ponds. This eco-tour allows for activities like shelling, birdwatching, and hands-on exploration, making it a choice experience for those interested in coastal Georgia's natural beauty and wildlife.
Reviews
We have experienced many eco tours in the past, but this one truly stood out as one of the best. We were fortunate to have great weather, and our guide Robert was both enjoyable and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend it.
We took the Capers Island Wildlife Exploration Tour with Mike and his charming Fourth Mate, Polly, who was a delight and a highlight of the experience. This was truly the best part of our Charleston trip. Mike's extensive knowledge of the local ecosystem and wildlife was remarkable, and he made the information engaging for both adults and children. With our six-year-old along, he captivated everyone throughout the tour. We got close to dolphins, gained a wealth of knowledge about the region, and explored Capers Island in solitude, enjoying the stunning "boneyard" beach. The experience was fun, educational, and relaxed, creating lasting memories. If you're in Charleston and seeking a unique experience, look no further—this tour is a must-book.
We had a fantastic day visiting Capers Island. The boat was clean and comfortable, and our guide Captain Robert was excellent, using his extensive knowledge of the area to educate us. We spotted a few dolphins, visited an oyster bank, and checked a crab pot that had blue crabs and stone crabs, with Robert explaining each species. His dog, likely named Isabell, was a delightful addition to the experience. We had ample time to explore the island before returning. We highly recommend this excursion to family and friends.
This was our fourth experience with the Capers Island Wildlife Exploration through Barrier Islands Eco Tours, always chosen for special occasions or when family is visiting. Our guide, Mickey, provided extensive insights into marshes, estuaries, coastal birds, dolphins, crabs, and oysters, answering questions and ensuring everyone had the chance to enjoy close-up views. We consistently discover something new! The tour includes a lovely 40-minute walking break on the boat ride where we explore the boneyard beach. The Capers Island Wildlife Exploration is suitable for all.
Our school group of 5th graders had a fantastic experience with Barrier Island Eco Tours. The students enjoyed learning about crabs, dolphins, turtles, and clams. Both our guide and boat driver were excellent. They even prepared hotdogs and hamburgers for lunch on Capers Island. I highly recommend this adventure to everyone!
We had a fantastic Saturday morning experience on the Barrier Islands Eco Tour. Our guide, Parker, had exceptional knowledge of the ecosystems and made the trip enjoyable and personal. I would highly recommend it. Thank you for a wonderful time.
Captain Robbie was fantastic! Both kids and adults were captivated and gained a wealth of knowledge.
Capers Island Wildlife Tour deserves a five-star rating! This experience is perfect for those who appreciate personalized interactions with a guide who can recite Poe, share historical insights about U-Boats and Hurricane Hugo, and provide fascinating animal trivia. Robert Randolph, an engaging teacher and world traveler, truly stands out. In a time dominated by AI, he brings out the best in children and evokes nostalgia in adults. You'll connect with nature, learn valuable tips about shellfish, and spot dolphins. One minor concern: if you're interested in the men's professions, it would be nice to show the same interest in the women.
